In fairness, Ben used to fight crime in a hoodie sweatshirt and a half-finished Spider-Man suit and yet it's still only maybe his second worst look after the Jackel/Anubis mask and the costume that made him look like Spidercide.
And, according to at least one novelization, the Amazing Fantasy 15 "Masked Marvel" mask was made of pantyhose. Granted that wasn't technically a superhero outfit but Peter has fought crime with a paper bag over his head on many occasions.
Maybe this isn't fair but Miles' new costume feels more like a Tarantula redesign to me than a Spider-Man one. The silhouette is a huge problem too. I get that they may want to make it distinct from other Spider-people but it sets his design too far apart.
I notice a lot of people keep thinking that this was going to be Kaine. I think it's because there's something "aggressively street" to this design, with the narrower eyes, red and black color scheme, and the mask with the tie in the back to it.
As a spider anti-hero costume, I think this works out okay, but the problem is that Miles isn't that. He's the son of a cop and a nurse that's the living definition of a good boy.
It comes off as a spider anti-hero costume because it looks remarkably like Kaine's. The more we read of Kaine in that costume, the more we associated the colors with a Spider-Man with far looser morals. I mean, the first thing I think of when I think of Scarlet Spider Kaine is how the first thing he did to Carnage when they first met is twist his head 180 degrees. And if this was the 90s or something, that would have actually killed Cletus since the healing abilities of symboites weren't really touched upon for another decade.
If the artists don't get to redesign a new costume every now and then they get nervous and start to poop indoors. It's just something you have to deal with.
Yeah, this looks to have played out the same way that ever modern, vaguely antagonistic heroes meeting ends up playing out.
I still don't like Miles new costume, though I think it looks better when certain artists draw it. It is kind of amusing to see that the new Spider-Verse movie has its own redesign in the cards and it looks both cooler and more streamlined than this does.
You'd think two Spider-Men would be genre-savvy enough to skip the Superhero Misunderstanding Fight.
Especially after Spider-Verse.
Sure Miles' costume is bad but most of his costumes are pretty terrible. The original (not counting dressing as Peter) was okay and I see why they keep going back to it. The one in the animated movie was even better. All the others have ranged from forgettable to awful.

This design seems it will suffer the same fate as the "Drake " costume that Tim had.

"Mommy, what's wrong with those men?"
"DON'T LOOK AT THEM!"
I'm not wild about Miles new look
I prefer his OG costume I think
This one looks too much like he's just wearing a regular sweatshirt
If your gonna be a superhero I think you should have a full costume
There are some exceptions but not everyone can be Luke Cage or Jessica Jones or John Constantine

It's like trying to reinvent the wheel.

This?
This ain't it, Chief.
He almost looks like a Beast Morpher Power Ranger in this getup.
