It's just a bunch of toys shouting points of lore at each other - it's like the target audience for this book is a crudely drawn caricature of Chris Sims.
(You can't call Williamson and Dennis Culver " bad writers " for this, because their previous work indicates otherwise - this has to be the most cheerfully willing instance of " the readers'll buy anything that hits all the clichés of Superhero Comic " hackwork ever.)
Well, I for one will always enjoy seeing a version of the BwL getting their ass kicked, which I expect to happen soon. Let's just hope they don't try to make her sympathetic and that the story just gets done with her asap.
Regarding that first page: where does it take place? I assume it's on some realm beyond the 52 earths but I could be wrong. I just find it odd to see a version of Gloriana and an angel punching Darkseid on the face XD.
No no, it's just the latest example of someone at DC taking up one of Morrison's ideas only to completely fumble it/deploy it in the stupidest and most antithetical way possible.
Grant often wanted people to take his ideas and write stories from them. Seven Soldiers was intended to reinvigorate the characters. But DC seem to have gotten it completely wrong. Again.
That seems to be Morrison's curse whenever they offer a new idea. Either it's entirely forgotten or it gets brought back in the worst way possible. Like when Red Racer from Multiversity came back only to immediately be killed off, or when the Seven Soldiers basically vanished.
I thought Scott Snyder handled Morrison’s stuff in a decent enough way (at least until that just became The Batman Who Laughs show and Death Metal got really self-indulgent).
At least when comic writers were chasing WATCHMEN and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS they were... Were... All right, I am not sure what those writers were doing. But at least it wasn't Kathy Kane with an Infinity, uh I mean a Golden Glove.
Also, I'm darkly amused that one of the members of the JLI is... DINO COP. Not to be confused with any other green-skinned, fin-headed reptilian law enforcement officers.
Not a bad story, but certainly energetic to the point of exhausting.
I feel like this multiverse stuff would be a lot more effective if they stick to one universe, complete a full story, and move on to the next. I want to a three-issue arc with President Superman in his universe, then visit DC's version of the Marvel universe. Give me a chance to grow attached to a character before introducing a new one.
I'm enjoying this series. Maybe I'm the only one here who is but I like it
It's a big ridiculous multiverse adventure and it isn't insisting on its own importance like Death Metal did
The Batwoman Who Laughs is ridiculous but I think she's meant to be? She feels like a deliberate parody of the Batman Who Laughs and how Snyder tried to turn him into the Poochy of the DCU with his "The Batman Who Laughs should be louder, angrier and have access to a time machine" foolishness
That’s probably a case of the scars still healing from his reign of terror. He’s not even really gone, he still gets a ton of merchandise and last I heard he’s the main antagonist of the second Batman/Fortnite crossover comic (which, unless I’m mistaken, I think is actually canonical to mainline continuity).
To be fair, he got his own skin in Fortnite recently enough and that game’s lore is apparently all about omniversal shenanigans, so that’d be something of a missed opportunity it’s not to utilise him. Still, I think he’s way overstayed his welcome by this point.
I'm a little confused. That "BOOM" with the "HA HA HA HA HA" in it...does that mean her bombs explode while laughing? Like Red Goblin's biting pumpkin bombs?
Also, how is Darkseid getting punched by ANYONE after he took out some of DC heaviest hitters in a single shot when his Omega self was introduced? And here's he's getting decked by some angel?
I mean, at DC angels range from minor ones barely able to do anything all the way up to Lucifer and Michael being able to affect reality across the omniverse and interact with the Endless as at least peers. It's not that unlikely that Asmodel might be above Darkseid's weight class.

Date: 2021-12-21 09:50 pm (UTC)Entire narrative universes, meanwhile, are now conceptualized in modular form such that their parent companies can produce an indefinite number of reboots, sequels, and prequels, wringing as much value from the original product as possible. The same monopolism has yielded an astonishing boom in crossover content, as conglomerates seek to extract further rents by combining and reassembling their properties.
