Series finale is here.

And all the speculation was right, Mr. D'Onofrio returns as the Kingpin of Crime, big as life and twice as mean.

Talk about getting what you want in the way you would least want it.

I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but in the aftermath of the reveal, the way New York was shot seems changed -- it doesn't look crisp and clean, but murky and grim.

Interesting shift between Kate's party outfit in the first episode and what she's wearing in the last.

Kazi is a terrible sniper.

You know, of all the terrible ideas that anyone could come up with, that was the terriblest.

I'm not crazy about the Kingpin showing up personally for this -- particularly with how it plays out in the end!

And so it ends with an extended Hamilton reference.

Why, yes, writers. I totally believe you killed that character just after introducing them, and showing them to tank multiple injuries when you have them shot off-screen.

Kate and Yelena's fight banter is best.
Also, obligatory "I dressed in layers."

Turns out Jacques is... actually just a doofy French dude with a bad mustache who likes swords.
I'm not sure if my expectations have been toyed with on that or not.

But what impresses me most is that in a six episode series called Hawkeye, we learned absolutely nothing about his past.
Like, not even a throwaway line.
Not a one!
Takes some doing.

I kind of love Jacques as "Affable Sword Doof."

I also appreciated Fisk's festive outfit.

After the last episode made it obvious that he was just a fall guy, I think Jacques might be my favorite character on this show.

He's just so FUN.

He was so excited to have a reason to swordfight people!

He's living his best life!

I really hope he takes up the LARPers' offer.

(Though I do worry he might get booted for being "too intense")

Set up by his fiancée, rejected by the LARPers, Jack Duquense turns to a life of crime as the Swordsman!

... not because of any desire for vengeance. He just wanted to see what it was like.

With Clint clearly wanting to retire, I think Kate might be on the market for a new old fart sidekick sooner rather than later.

Plus hearing a gunshot offscreen is right up there with seeing a plane crash in terms of deaths that aren't likely to stick.

And the extremely strong hint about Laura Barton’s true identity… which many people already guessed.

You mean Mockingbird? Because she's already with someone else in Agents of SHIELD and that was before the show's time travel shenanigans caused it to split from the MCU timeline (I guess Kang missed that one).

The clue we're given is a watch with a SHIELD logo on the back and the number 19. In the comics, Agent 19 was Barbara Morse's original designation. So clearly, that's the link we're supposed to make. I dunno how this relates to the Bobbi Morse of Agents of SHIELD, though... but the way that show was divorced from the MCU early on, I'mma go with "alternate timeline hijinks."

Maybe. I think the Agents of SHIELD cast being the ones who evacuated Sokovia in Age of Ultron (and SHIELD season two) might have been the last time they really interacted with the larger MCU (I fully expect that they'll never address the Darkhold continuity issues) and Fury and Sif are just about the only film characters that know their deal.

Still, Agents of SHIELD season two started with Bobbi Morse as a mole inside Hydra before leaving to join Phil and co while Age of Ultron introduced Laura Barton as a stay at home mom so it'd be a heck of a double life.

I know they said the show isn't canon but they said the same thing about the Netflix stuff and Daredevil is looking pretty canon to me.

I'm so curious about the structure of the Steve Rogers musical now. Who are the Doctor and random NY-loving business man? Is the whole show structured around them as a look into how the average civilian views Steve Roger's life? Are they just there for that one number? Do Cap and Iron Man have a really intense opposing duet during the part of the show that covers Civil War?

I’m really confused by Yelena’s continuity here.

In Black Widow she was pointed toward Clint by the Contessa (presumably as part of a larger plot to recruit her into the Dark Avengers or Thunderbolts or whatever).

In this series we find out Kate’s mom hired her.

Is the implication that the MCU Contessa has ties to organized crime instead of Hydra? Does she work for Ms. Bishop or the Kingpin himself? None of that really seems to match with the way she was used in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Also, given the conversion scorntx and I had last week, it seems like a real shame Yelena and Maya don’t have a long talk (did they even interact?) … but it was nice seeing Clint and Yelena get closure. I’m less excited about where they left Maya because … c’mon no one actually believes she killed Kingpin, right?

Speaking of Schrodinger’s mobsters … that owl totally ate the tracksuit guys, didn’t it?

Anyway, very happy Grills lived. That was a nice subversion of exceptions…though Lucky feels really superfluous here and I feel like he’s only around because he was in the source material. Swordsman was a delight and I really want them to bring back those Blu Ray shorts just for him.

This episode might have the worst post-credits scene in a Marvel thing.

Maybe Contessa was working as a middle man?
Or it's part of some Fiendish Master Plan?

Kinda wish they explained exactly how that watch was so important.

Yeah, it belonged to Hawkeye's wife, but so what? Did it ID her civilian cover? Have some intel on it? What exactly made it so important?

It was an okay ending, but just like all the other Marvel series it felt rushed. Those...what, five minutes? that we spent on the stupid musical could be better used.
D'onofrio is still killing as Fisk, and I hope both him and Kazi return for the Echo series.

This episode was okay, I just wish that more of what was in it was in the rest of the show. There was too much padding and filler in the middle three episodes, and then everything was stuffed into the final episode instead as big reveals. Marvel really needs to think about revisiting traditional episodic story telling.

I have a feeling that Fisk got his hands on a sample of the Super Soldier Serum, given that seems have to have gotten a power boost, now ripping doors off cars instead of decapitating people with them.
