He threw his shield with sufficient speed and accuracy that it could bisect a bullet from behind?

Yep. Threw his shield at the wall, causing it to ricochet to cut the bullet. That's part of what makes the shield special. It loses very little speed when bouncing off objects due to the vibranium mixed in it.
