"Cracker" IS a slur. It refers to the cracking of a whip. There's as much hate behind it as any other slur. Most people are unaware that is what the term means though, so they brush it off. It's a terrible thing to call someone who has done you no harm other than be the same color skin as those who may have in the past.
I live in the American South, in some staunchly red territory, and I agree: "cracker" is not the sort of thing you want people to be saying in polite company, because shit's going to get ugly in a hurry.
Even just a cursory read of the Wikipedia article will show this is one of many possible ways and, in fact, if it's true, it's because they were the ones cracking the whip upon slaves.
TERF isnt inherently a slur (though it is, justifiably, often used as one) Its a matter of context. (like all slurs really, though many are so negatively loaded they are only very rarely used in other contexts)
Anyone who claims otherwise is just a pathetic loser with a life so utterly empty and pitiful that they WANT to be a victim just because they're desperate for attention...either from the sea of mewling idiots that is social media or the mindless screeching that is the media in general
TERFS and SWERFS are hateful bigoted morons and if people despise them that isn't prejudice, it's common sense. And if people insult them that isn't a slur it's what they deserve
Yes, but it WASN'T them cracking the whip. Nobody is cracking whips on slaves these days...well, not in most countries. TERFs describe a sort of person that are present today.
I don't know about other people, but if I was accused of violently and purposefully oppressing people, I'd be a little upset about it. It was all fun and games when I thought I was being called a "cracker" due to having a similar complexion to a saltine, but once I knew what it meant, I found it extremely insulting.
Having checked the article you provided, I'm a bit sad it came to this. "Cracker" referring to someone who cracks wises is a pretty good term. I like it in that context. But I doubt that's what anyone means when they call someone a "cracker" these days.
In all seriousness, though, the kind of rhetoric on display here is uncomfortably close to the sort of thing that’s been used to justify IRL racism and prejudice against people.

Cracker is as much as slur, then, as is TERF.
