Joker lost his red lips?

To be fair that was the case during the very early comics, him using lipstick was a later addition.



Idk if there’s an official answer at this point though. I guess it depends on the creative team.

Not just very early. I think the first time it was lipstick was in The Dark Knight Returns. Even then, that was an alternate universe. "Very early" would be like...70 or 80 years ago.

TDKR was the first time I recall it too, and then was also when he was old and was generally... fading in terms of colour.

Plus, whilst Miller was also keen to show the Joker as being more, for want of a better term, "deviant" than he had been before. He was coating his lips with poison lipstick in TDKR wasn't he?

No, he isn't. Just look at The Killing Joke. When he takes the hood off and sees his face for the first time, his lips are ruby red. This is a silly retcon. Why wouldn't the chemical bath make his lips bright red? It literally changed his DNA so his hair remains green. If it can do that, it can do anything.

As I said, it depends on the artist. He’s been depicted both ways.

...are we sure this isn't an artist error? His gums are white too. I have never seen Joker drawn with bleached white gums. What is happening to Batman's face in that second to last panel? And his "ears" are shrinking, growing, and all together vanishing through out the page...this is weird.

I like to imagine Batman said “where is the joker? In a loud Christian bale voice.

I like to think he said "where is" normally, and then a disembodied guitar riff accompanied his logo-speech.
