My issue is the villain going to all these extremes but then decdiding to rush off rather than wait the handful of seconds it would take to confirm the kill.
In fact, here he says 'kill him' but then has enough time to cross the room and climb a ladder before a minion so much as points a gun. It's like the henchman deliberately wants to wait for his boss to be gone.
I actually read an upcoming young adult book set in a comic book style universe, and there's a whole thing about henchmen trained to shoot at, but miss, the hero, (and know when to take a dive rather than put up a serious fight) and henchmen who subtly sabotage the villain's death ray/alert their loved ones to potentially dangerous situations, and otherwise impede the worst excesses of the bad guys. It's a nice exploration of people who take a job because they really need a job, but who aren't fully on line with "conquer the world, kill the hero" mentality.
I expect the Marvel U has gotta be full of people who join Hydra/AIM/Secret Empire/etc without actually subscribing to that ethos.
Strictly No Heroics, by B.L. Radley.
Sadly, it won't be out until May 2023 because the publishing industry is mean, but you can always pre-order it on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Strictly-No-Heroics-B-Radley-ebook/dp/B09SDXPZQT) or add it on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/55837693) if you do that sort of thing.
Or if you have access to a friendly book reviewer/blogger/whatever, you might be able to con it out of them. :)
With the current subplot of Peter Parker's medical bills from what I assume was his Beyond-era stay...
You'd think that someone would have found a way to introduce secretly subsidized healthcare for the superhero community. I mean sure, Avengers and FF presumably have great healthcare plans (provided you don't mind Reed experimenting on you or whatever weird Wakandan/Asgardian mashup they use in the giant god-corpse for the Avengers...) and obviously the X-Men healthcare is either "we heal you with mutant powers, replace body parts with plant technology, or just let you die and bring you back.)
But imagine if vigilantes and unaffiliated heroes could sign up for healthcare--programs hidden in a stack of shell companies but all ultimately leading back to one parent program dedicated to taking care of heroes who get hurt... and maybe even their loved ones if the hero so opts in. Sure, it requires a bit of trust and at least some form of secret ID obfuscation on the part of those who care about such things -- there's a lot of logistics to keep everyone safe but...
I don't really know how I feel about this particular storyline until we see how it all shakes out. Like, Tombstone is going farther than he's ever gone, but is it really going to be as misanthropic as this bleak (and kinda wheel spinning) issue suggests?
JRJR's art isn't working for me though, but what else is new?
I genuinely think someone at editorial got wind that you can colour in the inks now to create texture, and decided to apply that to JRjr despite the fact that his work has always been defined by its blocky blacks and rugged lines (which is why he's better suited to, say, Hulk books).
As a result, we get this...Frank Quitely-esque meltiness.
Tombstone was introduced into the Marvel universe as a hitman who brutally murdered innocent people so I'm not sure why Peter is shook here at the idea he might hurt civillians
Its a bit like someone being horrified the Red Skull is an antisemite or that the Purple Man might have misogynistic views about women 0_o

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

Eh, just a thought exercise.
