I figure that using Banshee powers to boost Dazzler powers to boost Bishop powers leaves you with one heck of a weapon, though.

And as Irene sits there, pondering why Mutantkind seems to suddenly die out, Beast walks past, desperately pestering Professor X to listen to his newest 'world-breaking' idea. Irene tries not to listen, but she's pretty sure she hears the word "liquefy" in there somewhere.

Ah, yes. Character X, the breakout hit, in their own series at last!
(Even though with the lead time in comic books meaning there's no way the series could've been greenlit and written so soon after X's introduction unless someone was already planning on making it.)

Marvel keeps trying to make readers sympathize and maybe even root for Mystique, but without her making amends for being one of the worst people imaginable for the past few decades it keeps not working at all.

I mean, I can root and sympathize with Mystique and still see her as an unrepentant monster. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't WANT Mystique to make amends. I want her to stay as an unrepentant monster who kills people, but is also head over heels in love with her wife and would do anything for her, including murdering people.

I think there's a tendency with a sympathetic villain to go too far and make them a hero.

(At this point I think Magneto is a better person than the Professor.)

You can still have a character with completely valid points who is an absolute monster.

I'll still root for her when she's going after people worse than she is (like a sizable chunk of the mutant ruling class).
