Honestly, Gambit's been pretty stale for a long time. Lets see what we get.

My bet is either they’re doing this to split him and Rogue up or they’ll use the Siege Perilous (which is the big MacGuffin they’re questing for in this series) to get him back the way he was.

I think it’s more of a parental sort of “my love”, like a pet name parents and caretakers call their kids.

Mind you, Shogo’s birth mother was killed by a meteor, he was possessed by evil bacteria that wiped his mind, his dad was a supervillain who wanted to use him as a weapon (I think? I could be misremembering), he’s been kidnapped a bunch of times, he had to live through at least two different mutant genocides (both of which claimed the lives of his guardians) and Excalibur’s been using him as a weapon of mass destruction for at least a year now. Shogo is a literal infant, how much sacrifice does he have to witness?

Like in the early issues where Gambit's all mistrustful of Big A for SOME REASON, and it sure didn't look like it was because of the long history of brainwashing people into his team of murder-monsters, Gambit included, and more because he was just being a big ol' grumpy bear.

At this point, I think the list of X-Men who haven't been Horsemen at some point is basically Artie and (possibly) Leech.

He'd be a shoo in for Famine, given his power is about depriving others of their powers and Apocalypse loving to stretch a metaphor to breaking point.

Though, if I remember the X-Men Evolution cartoon correctly, the X-Men did actually do the obvious thing and chuck Leech (or a Leech adjacent character) at Apocalypse at one point.
