Rather dull end. "Jim decides not to shoot the Joker because Jim doesn't shoot the Joker ever. Joker kills someone and leaves." Done. Same as it ever was. The best interaction between the two was when Jim shot him in the knee. At least Joker didn't get away scott clean this way.

Yeah the issue is a bit anticlimactic IMO. There is one big reveal with Wnzrf Tbeqba We orvat nyvir but it's handled in a rather bizarre way.

The Joker: "I'm going to kill someone."

Jim (Has a gun pointed at the Joker): Oh no!

The Joker: Hahahaha, put down your gun!

Jim: *shoots The Joker first while he's busy waving his guns around*

How it should have gone.

I mean, if the Joker was going to kill someone anyway, why would Jim even think about putting his gun down as requested?

It's not like Jim has a lot of options there with a gun pointed at his face.

The option was shoot first.

If the Joker hadn't said he was going to kill someone, there was some justification for hoping for the best and putting the gun down.

But the Joker literally said that and Jim would know from experience he was going to kill someone, so why not shoot?

As it is, it reads like Jim disarmed himself, knowing someone would die, and sacrificed one of the other people in the room to preserve himself.

His arms were already down when Joker had his gun on him. Shooting first wasn’t an option.

Also the other people in the room were two cannibal serial killers and a woman who helped orchestrate a terrorist attack that killed five hundred people. I doubt Gordon was willing to let them die regardless but they’re not people he should sacrifice his own life for either.

Joker does turn away to fake leaving in panel nine of the first scan. That at least buys Gordon enough time to get his gun up, if his heart were really in it. If the Joker had actually wandered off without shooting ajyone, was Gordon going to not give chase?

Joker probably wouldn't have left the gun on the floor in that case.

JOKER: Because it's the only thing he could do, Jim! It doesn't matter if it doesn't make sense - the story demands it! That's why I won't shoot you. That's why you won't shoot me. Because we can't. Anyhoo, I'm just gonna kill someone disposable to stay on brand then hitchhike back to Gotham.

JIM: Hitchhiking won't possibly work. You're the world's most identifiable serial killer.

JOKER: And yet it will! Toodles!

Someone has fucking got to figure out what to do with the Joker.

Every single page he is one with established characters you can practically hear "Status Quo is god" being chanted in Latin.

Hell at this point I am down with reverting back the the version that rarely if ever killed people. But they got to do fucking something.

I think about how Batman Beyond had the Joker mocked, ridiculed and killed, by a Batman successor no less, and wonder if that movie could even be made today.
