The Ms. Marvel finale had some major changes for Kamala's character, one that will likely impact the MCU.

That's right... Kamala is no longer an Inhuman. She's a MUTANT. Complete with the X-Men animated series music. Will she be on the X-Men? Will this impact the comics via synergy? Only time will tell.

All the Inhumans and Shield TV show stuff (plus anything Marvel TV pre Disney+ outside *maybe* the netflix shows) has pretty much been declared non-canon. Multiverse of Madness cameos aside.

Wow, I didn't realize the Inhumans has that much stink to the franchise, I hope this won't reflect in the comics.

The Eternals screenwriters were specifically told they couldn't use Hawaii as a setting, solely because the Inhumans TV show was set there. The stink is real.

My general reaction was: Okay so what?

The only reason Inhumans got the push they did in the comics is because Marvel was mad that they weren't getting that X-men movie money because they sold the movie rights to the X-men to Sony and they weren't giving it back, So they were trying to actively push Mutants into the background/kill them off due to stupid petty industry bullshit.

Aside from having Lockjaw as a sidekick, Kamala has never really had any real meaningful interaction with the main inhuman stuff. She doesn't live in Attilan, she doesn't interact with the royal family (Which I think is generally a good thing because I think if Kamala spend more than five minutes in Attilan her response would be "Man fuck this place you guys are all abelist elitist assholes AND ARE THOSE SLAVES LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?")

Heck, if they really wanted to be petty they could have done what they did with Squirrel Girl and said "Well, she's not technically a mutant because a different part of her DNA is altered, so she's legally distinct from being a mutant."

So yeah, make Kamala a Mutant. Hell make Lunella a mutant too while we're at it I know she has a show upcoming soon.

On a serious note, I'm not really attached to Kamala being an Inhuman, but I would have preferred her not being swallowed up by the X-Men.

A) There were no slaves by the time Kamala was around.

I don't think more of this petty industry bs is a good thing. After all, two wrongs don't make a right.

Plus the more they get away with these sweeping alterations to characters backgrounds and powers the more it'll embolden them to do even more of that in all their future adaptions.

A funny thought, but Ike is not all that involved with Marvel these days so he might not care either way. Not to mention that this is happening because Marvel studios has the rights to the X-Men now.

Okay, cool. So they're introducing mutants. So Kamala gets to be a mutant. It doesn't bother me any, because in the big picture, her being an Inhuman was never that big a part of her overall identity, save as a convenient origin method. She associated with the Royal Family for a brief time at the start, ran into some other Inhumans along the way, but it was never a real serious part of who she was.

So now she gets to be associated with mutants so far as "your powers come from something inherent to your genetic makeup" and with the Clandestine as "the family you can't choose who may also be working against you" where Kamran still fills that role...

I'm happy as long as they keep the heart of the character, the Kamala of it all, and they were faithful to that much.

If they make Kamala part of Cultural Erasure Island, it sure will change the character.

After guessing on every single show out there, they finally found the one that introduces mutants.

But I'm really not a fan of this change, it feels like interconnectedness for the sake of it. Just like with the power change, this was done for a wider connection to other characters, but in this case the other characters don't even exist yet. Kamala Khan being the first mutant in the MCU is insane.

Well, the first character onscreen to be told she's got a mutation. Presumably there are others out there that we, the audience, have not seen yet.

Better this way than some clash of multiverses just thrusting the X-Men directly into the MCU.

While I like the tease of introducing the Mutants into the MCU, I have to admit that this was kind of puzzling as it makes no sense within the show that Kamala is a mutant. Like her powers were so tied to the larger storyline that having it instead be a mutant was just confusing. Especially after Kamran gets the same powers.

The actual, precise origin of Kamala's powers is the least interesting thing about her character. Were she created in another era, under a different editorial mandate, her comics counterpart could easily be a mutant, or been doused with radioactive chemicals or whatever.

I'm more interested by the post-credits scene, which promises some suitable wackiness for 'The Marvels'.
