"The X-Men should always be aspirational" is a perfect encapsulation of why I love this book and loathe Marauders.

I also love the Essex county gag. For those who might not know - that's actually the name of the New Jersey county across the river from NYC.

I think he powered the giant X-mech they used to punch a space monster early on. And played defense against some other space threats while the X-women pulled the Gameworld heist.

And of course, in the classic Sunfire mode, he quit the X-men.

The Hellfire Gala + Immortal X-Men issue that came out to today were great. I love all the storylines they are setting up.

It's refreshing seeing Cyclops being the sane one again. The man went bloody bonkers during AvX and didn't regain his sanity for a while.

I am starting to get disillusioned with the X-Men now. I hate what has happened to Moira. I don't care about Arakko. Now the X-Men are dragging characters like MODOK and Mary Jane in to their bullshit. I think I will drop this title now.

Urich immediately forgiving them violating his mind because he is properly worshipful of mutantkind as a Good Representative Of The Lesser Races was the funniest thing honestly. Like he even goes off on a tangent in his article about how gentle and kind the Krakoan state security apparatus is, something that no doubt convinced absolutely no one that he hasn't been mind-controlled.

Without context, Cyclops coming out strong against "Councils," is kind of hilarious.

One of the things that makes Cyclops a delightful character is that everytime he stands up for what is right and achieves something good, you can the universal countdown start when life is about to hit him hard. Yet he never breaks.

He is legitimately the closest thing to a paladin character in the MU.

Moria just keeps underestimating Cypher, doesn't she? He's going to pick up on the slightest resistance Mary Jane puts up. What's subtle to everyone else is a blazing sign to him.

Also feel weird reading Emma so friendly to Spider-Man when pre-Devil's Reign her insulting him in the sewers. Really feels like Duggan is trying to make people like his fave by going "Oh, you like Spider-Man? So does Emma!"

It's definitely just for appearances. Later on Peter gets involved in trying to save MJ, and Emma grouses about how "you really can't take Spider-Man anywhere, can you?"

Emma's also still pretending her and Stark never slept together.

Interestingly, the new issue of Immortal X-Men is Emma-focused and dives into why she's such an ice queen.

It's not hugely original, but it's nice to at least see it addressed.

IIRC She also touched Spider-Man's memories in that story, and was aghast when she realised how much shit the universe had thrown at Peter Parker when he was no older than her first Hellions, and he had still come out of it an inspirational hero with a sense of humour. She respects the hell out of Spider-Man.

Respects him so much she still used him for her child abduction. Yes, you can argue the kid benefited from it, but she still forced him into being an accessory to a crime. Something Peter would NOT be okay with.

I thought that was Devils Reign. Or did it happen in both? (Of course, if I want to be nitpicky, if it happened in Devils Reign in flashback she already should have known that by that story, but whatever.)

Ah, I hadn't noticed the "pre" in your originakl comment, yes it was the flashback in Devil's Reign.

Of course, that doesn't mean she approves of the way he conducts himself sometimes (No one ever accused Emma of being "NICE"). And a fight at HER gala is likely to annoy her greatly.

Destiny's Hellfire Gala costume sure was... something. Seeing someone who has been an old woman for the majority of her publication history in something that very much looks like a golden spray paint straight out of Goldfinger kinda took me from the left field.
