By all accounts, the letters pages of later issues suspiciously skipped coverage of this issue, so I don't know how readers reacted to the bait and switch.

Hey, they warned you it wouldn't be the barbarian you expected. If you bought this at a newsstand, maybe you would've looked inside before buying and wouldn't suffer a bait-and-switch.

Honestly, if I was Marvel, I'd re-establish Kronak as their replacement for Conan, since they're going to lose his comic book rights anyways.

Just have Kang try to wipe him out of history, only to find out he didn't get rid of Conan, he just ended up giving him a new name.

I bought and enjoyed this issue because, yeah, it’s basically an older (King?) Conan who is meaner.
