Him and Clayface. Matt Hagan used to just be some crook who found a magic mud puddle or something. The Animated Series turned him into a tragic figure. Scarred, addicted, and indebted to the mob.

In fairness, he was based personality and backstory wise on the more interesting Basil Karlo with Matt Hagan's powers, but your point is made.

Ehh...not really. The only thing they had in common was that both were actors. Basil Karlo wasn't scarred. He was no tragic figure either. Didn't even have powers until decades later. Just a murderer in a mask. It just so happened that the mask was of a character Karlo played in the past named Clayface.

B:TAS Hagan was just an actor who had lost everything in an accident and was offered a way back to the profession he so loved. But the deal proved to be a Faustian one. And when he tried to get out of it, he was made into an utter monster. He DID get an awesome theme, sound effect for his powers, and the voice of Ron Perlman though, so it wasn't all bad.
