Shaka, when the walls fell (Young Avengers Edition)

We pick up after Siege #3, with Asgard in ruins.

Speed runs around trying to save as many people as he can.

Wiccan and Hulkling realize that the Young Avengers haven't beaten the Wrecking Crew yet, which is obligatory for teenage heroes/teams, and so they locate them and kick their asses (well, mostly Billy does).

Patriot and Hawkeye, the team's two most-likely-to-get-squished members, are stuck together under a pile of rubble that's in danger of collapse.

Stature and Vision aren't here, but they've gotten more page-time in the last two months than the others have gotten in the last two years, so that's fine.

Joining our heroes now under a pile of collapsing rubble:




You're supposed to use the "we could die at any minute" line, Eli.

Some time later:




"I'm still going to totally lead you and Speed on for a while longer, but all the same."

The five then race off to rejoin the battle.  Overall, it was a nice little story; I'm always up for any scrap of material with these characters that gets thrown our way.

Arent Kate and Eli dating though? This is confusing...

They went on a date in her issue of Young Avengers Presents, but, even apart from the ninja interruption, it didn't go well. She then went on a date/adventure with Speed, but at the end of the issue she told Eli that she just needed some time. It's still up in the air.

Well, sort of. After that one date with Tommy/"give me time" and kiss conversation with Eli, she pretty much stops flirting with Tommy, and keeps flirting with Eli. At least in the two books that have happened since Presents. It's up in the air, but not as much as it was in the original YA run.

What does the "All this time I've known you...." bit from Teddy to Billy mean?

It relates to the "Norse nerd" comment - basically, how much he used to love Norse mythology (it's a character moment, someone else could post it).

I wondered if that might be the case, but how dumb does that make Teddy? Of course Billy is a massive Norse-nerd, it's been blatantly obvious from his first appearance; the kid was in the Thor-homage outfit, and whose first choice for a name was "Asgardian" for Odin's sake.

Of course, but they're allowed to tease each other even about the obvious things. And considering what just happened, they're also allowed to make any jokes they can find.

Nope. Still no Teddy and Billy kiss. THey got to hug and touch though.

Really finding myself annoyed with Kate now. I loved the character and all but good god I can't stand women that do that shit.

Kate has previously told him she is not ready for a relationship. When he kisses her here in a tense situation, she firmly sets down her boundaries and establishes they can continue to work professionally before basically reiterating "not that I don't like you, but I'm not doing that right now."

Kate's seventeen and it's strongly implied in her backstory she was raped in her early teens. I see no problem with her telling the boys in her life what she can and cannot deal with right now.

I hate how they make Eli so submissive to Kate now.
They make him seem way too into her, when Heinberg wrote it there was a balance.

I also seemed wrong and OOC for Kate to look scared while Eli is yelling at her IMO.

Like when he submissively gives her orders, submissively knocks the bow out of her hands, submissively yells at her and submissively kisses her?

Most people are sheepish after they kiss someone and get shot down. And it was established back in YA Presents: Hawkeye that Kate is into him, but doesn't want to take it anywhere for a while.

edit: I agree about Kate's expression, though. In the pencils she just looked shocked/surprised.

Yea, she's into him but sure does keep her eyes on Speed.. and I'm gonna choose to believe that she wasn't raped. I get tired of writers having a woman get raped. Why can't she simply get a beating like Brooke in One Tree Hill? It was enough to effect her without there having to be the big "R" word.

She hasn't been flirting much with Speed recently; and really if she had, so what? There's nothing wrong with flirting, and she's made no promises to anyone.

Well, the whole rape-as-origin does get old, but a women who's been brutally attacked in any way may well be firm about setting boundaries and be cautious about alllowing people close.

I love Kate. I kinda wish she wasn't so much with the bare midriff, gives me Huntress flashbacks. But damn, she and Eli are cute together. Or sort of together.

Everytime I see a YA mini it makes me sad that we never got that run they promised us :(

A classical case of slap, slap, kiss, kiss I totally get behind.

A part of me is a bit sad that we still didn't get any Billy/Teddy kissing but the scenes with them in this issues were so sweet and loving, it didn't matter.
