See, much as I like Peter and MJ together, I'd really really prefer this idea to what actually ended up happening in the book that I'm currently trying to pretend isn't canon. Hm, or maybe a threesome with Peter, Mary Jane, and Felicia? That'd work, too. Regardless, MJ/Felicia would still allow for Peter being (strictly platonic) best friends with them both, and they could keep him from messing up his life.

This could just be a variant of my "the only way OMD could work is if Peter came out of the closet and they got an amicable divorce and stayed best friends" theory -- they're BOTH closeted!

That would work beautifully. For OMD to work, one of the few scenarios I could see is something like that (and definitely not what happened in the comics). Then it could go like: both of them come out of the closet, they get an amicable divorce and stay really good friends, MJ ends up with Felicia (and Peter maybe ends up with a revived Harry Osborn or with Johhny Storm? or with someone else entirely, or stays happily single for a while). I like that theory; I like the Peter/MJ ship better, but I still like that theory lots!

Although tbh, I really do not see MJ/Felicia. They've only ever managed cordial amicability and they have nothing in common other than Peter.

We would respect the characters a lot more in that scenario! I could potentially see it, actually... but not straight off the bat, definitely. It would end up having to be a very slow and drawn out process that the writers and editors and such probably wouldn't be thrilled with, LOL.
