GALAXY GREEN was one of the (many) story concepts Jack "The King" Kirby came up with in life that never actually got published. You can't often say this about a man with as diverse a body of work as Kirby's, but this was really quite unlike anything else he ever worked on.

Who would have thought Kirby had this kind of sauciness in him?

According to issue #20 of the Jack Kirby Collector magazine, this series was conceived for an "'underground'-style tabloid publication called Uncle Carmine's Fat City Comix" that Kirby tried to sell DC Comics on.

If you're feeling disappointed that DC didn't bite on GALAXY GREEN, don't worry. Alex Ross' next major project will involve reviving and revamping the property for the modern day.

This sounds more like a strip that'd show up in Playboy.

This is Just like the song Tomorrow's Girls from Donld Fagan's Kamakiriad.

Our town is just like any other
Good citizens at work and play
Normal folks doin' business in the normal way
This morning was like any other
Mommies kissing daddies goodbye
Then the milkman screamed
And pointed up at the sky

Chorus:
From Sheilus to the reefs of Kizmar
From Stargate and the Outer Worlds
They're speeding towards our sun
They're on a party run
Here come Tomorrow's Girls
Tomorrow's Girls

You see them on the grass at lunch hour
Soaking up the vertical rays
In their summer dresses
A little smile can really make your day
Their kisses feel like real kisses
And when they cry they cry real tears
But what's left in your arms
When the static clears

Chorus:
They're landing on the Jersey beaches
Their engines make the white sand swirl
The heat is so intense
Earth men have no defense
Against Tomorrow's Girls

In the cool of the evening
In the last light of the triple sun
I wait by the go-tree
When the day's busy work is done
Soon the warm night breezes
Start rolling in off the sea
Yes, at lantern time
That's when you come to me
Come to me

Our home is just like any other
We're grillin' burgers on the back lawn
Some time goes by
We fall asleep with the TV on
I dream about a laughing angel
Then the laugh becomes a furious whine
Look out fellas
It's shredding time

Chorus:
They're mixing with the population
A virus wearing pumps and pearls
Lord help the lonely guys
Hooked by those hungry eyes
Here come Tomorrow's Girls
Tomorrow's Girls

Chorus:
From Sheilus to the reefs of Kizmar
From Stargate and the Outer Worlds
They're speeding towards our sun
They're on a party run
Here come Tomorrow's Girls
Tomorrow's Girls

Ummm... just about anyone who's ever read his work? :)

This IS the man who created Lashina of the Female Furies, and the Pseudo-People of OMAC, to name but two obvious examples.

Are you serious..? If so, I'm more dissappointed than ever now. This needs to remain forever in it's pristine, insane, glorious Kirbyness.
Ross' joyless attempts at seriousness and hyperrealism would just ruin it.

Anyway, I can't quite decide what I love more: Kirby Space Afro on that one girl... or the fact that they're all carrying Penis Guns!

I'll pass, I guess. Some concepts should be left to expire with the era they emerged with, I think.

This reminds me of a video on youtube I once came across in a blog. It was a black and white sci-fi show, it had people in costumes to help them look like they were "Kirbyesque" comcis to life. I remember there were male astronuats meeting female astronauts, and men were sexist. DOes anyone know what I am talking about here?

This was reprinted in Craig Yoe's CLEAN CARTOONISTS' DIRTY DRAWINGS(a book that you should buy*). I remember thinking when I saw Kirby was included in the book how unlikely it was Kirby would do a sex strip. After reading it, I still thought that. Weird. BUT fun.

Actually, no. It's a pretty cool book and a lot of it's surprisingly tame. I'd say that's only true of Joe Shuster.

The Berenstains are in it. It's not what you think. ;)
