A combination of 'favourite villain' and a belated 'series I could read over and over'...
Read or Dream, the follow-up series to Read or Die, follows the Paper Sisters - Michelle Chan, Maggie Mui, and Anita King - 3 Hong Kong papermasters who work as detectives, focussing on books (theoretically). It doesn't have much in the way of actual villains (unlike Read or Die or ROD the TV), but there are a couple...
And this is the introduction of one of them - the only recurring one, actually...
So, as volume 2 opens, Michelle and Maggie are out of the country (Michelle in the US, Maggie in Taiwan), leaving Anita on her own for a week...initially, she's looking forward to the peace and quiet, but...

The Clock Diary is a diary that's...locked with a clock, so it will only be possible to open it on one day - May 15, 2003, about 150 years after it was locked. (Why? No clue. It just is.)

So, Anita impresses Becky that she can do it, and they break into Lau's place - which I've had to cut for space.
So, finally, they get to his library...

Hmm....suspicious...

(How did she fit that dress under the bodysuit? ... Or did everyone get a show? Y'know, I wouldn't put that past Lily.)
She uses the paralysing stuff on Anita, too, and makes her escape...but first...

Dun-dun-duuuuuuun.
Anita's vengeance next time.
