Since this post raised the question, I dug back into the archives to see Emma Frost and Sue Storm going out on the lash.

It's from Marvel Knights 4: Impossible Things Happen Every Day, by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and assorted artists. This is from issue #21, with art by Valentine DeLandro.

It's Sue and Reed's anniversary, but Reed's gone off to Washington for a conference, so Sue wakes up on her own.

After beating up the Mole Man, Sue takes Val out to Franklin's association soccer match (and RAS gets in a Mary-Jane Watson dig) when Alicia phones to ask Sue for a girl's night out.

Carnage does not actually follow

And, in the theme of kick-arse women from the last decade, Wu Ao-Shi, the Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay will fuck you up bad

Wikipedia is your friend. Sharon (aka Ms. Marvel, aka She-Thing) is an old time FF character.

Is Alicia doing a Ray Charles impression?

All the years I have seen her, her cocking her head back like that is not one of them.

she's throwing her head back as she laughs because of the scene that jsut happened. If you don't think it's all that funny, remember... she has been drinking.

I'm wondering why she's wearing the shades at all. This is the first time I can think of ever seeing Alicia wearing them.

Standard Marvel superheroine naming convention:

Add She to the beginning of an established male hero's name.

Sharon went by the codname Ms Marvel for a time, before she went "Thing-y"

I thought it was after. Because this was an unexplained regression.

That's what I said. IIRC She had the PowerBrokers super-strength upgrade (and whatever happened to him I wonder), became a heroine going by the name Ms Marvel then went she-Thing and then yes, I thought she'd reverted.

I'm confused: there are 2 Ms. Marvels? Avengers Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel and a Thing Ms. Marvel? Didn't anyone notice that they had the same name?

At the time Sharon was using the name Carol was using the codename and powerset of Binary and was offworld with the Starjammers.

It happens quite a lot, look at how many people have used Captain Marvel just in the MU

I thought there where only 2 Captain Marvels? The Jim Starlin dude and the woman who was in Nextwave, right? Oh yeah, I forgot about that whole Binary deal... so what did the pre-Thing Ms. Marvel look like? I've only heard of her in passing. And how did she become a Thing? And is there a reliable IMDB-like site for these questions? (Not Wikipedia!)

Mar-Vell was the first, Monica Rambeau (Avengers/Nextwave/ect) was the second, then we also had Genis-Vell using the name for a while, then IIRC Noh-Varr used it, and possibly an alt-Carol Danvers too IIRC

Sharon, as the second Ms Marvel has an entry here and her history is outlined in much more detail than I could know here

Page 2, panel 1: Who puts the accent on the middle "well" in "well, well, well"? Try it. It sounds insane. That was in the script?

I was about to say that did look like Rusty, and he would be the kind of guy to try that.

In any case, I actually read the entire run of 4 on Marvel digital and LUUURRRVED it.

Seriously, in an age of comics constantly resorting to gore and murder to be more "adult", 4 Actually delivered it; mature, thought provoking stories involving Marvel's first family.

Seriously, this series made the Salem Seven Scary. It should be put up on a pedestal as a standard all comics should be held to.

The first thing I thought when seeing that first picture of Emma was, "What are you wearing?" The actual context was less funny. :(

Ah, this is the issue that Sue reveals she had a thing with T'challa. The fun part was how they used and juxtaposed the old artstyle (to show that the incident happened when the FF were first published?) with the current one. It looked like two alternate realities!

It wasn't just the artstyle, but the Stan Lee-esque language.

For example:

*T'Challa says something in French*

Sue (thought bubble): He speaks French! The language of love!

My favorite part was the ending, where its revealed that Reed didn't go to Washington, he went to some far away planet the FF visited once to pick a flower that Sue off handedly said was beautiful.

I thought it was a great DAWWWW moment.

Uh, yeah, comin' on a little strong there, Emma. Even if the guy WAS a creep - and he certainly looks like one - a simple 'sorry, we're not interested' would do. I know that such things aren't really Emma's style, but still.

Christ, Emma Frost is creepy. She pretty much embodies everything that's skeevy about telepathy as a superpower.

Thank you. Thank you a lot.

I really love Jean and a lot of the time Emma feels like a slap in the face to Jean fans. They put her in situations that Jean would be in but, ooh, look! She's being EDGY. She's threatening to hotwire people's minds and invading personal thoughts and being ruthless. SHE'S LIKE A MORE INTERESTING JEAN.

Except not. Except there are people that Jean would hang out with and Emma wouldn't. There are people who would listen to and/or give Jean advice that wouldn't do so with Emma. You can't just put Emma in Jean's place and expect it to work! You can't have it both ways!
