Erik Larsen addresses in-story the question of why the book is keeping its old title and numbering despite the fact that it now stars a different character.
I'm not too up on Dragon canon, but the general issue they talk about (renaming/renumbering titles) is pretty well-known, and I like how they handled it.
I will say, the "ho-hum, fightin' evil" attitude of the Dragon's has always been an incentive to check it out.
I've never really read Savage Dragon. Never had anything against it (other than it being an Image launch title and the negativity of association that I got from that event back then)...but I have to admit, whether I like Larsen or not...whether I like the comic or not: the man gets his work DONE.
171st issue? How many comics can make that claim today? Only two Image comics from the original launch are still being produced today. And only Dragon is still written and drawn by its creator. Larsen has quietly continued along his path from month to month (generally) for 15 years or so. That's commendable just by itself.
Fred Perry should be up to nearly 200 issues of Gold Digger by now - 50 black and white issues and 130 color issues. If we take spin-off minis into account, he's probably well past the 200 mark by now.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
