The death of Cypher at the gun-toting hands of the loser-villain "the Ani-Mator" in New Mutants V1 #60 is covered here
And now in New Mutants V2
It's been a shame since he came back from dead, that Doug and Lock haven't really done their cool "Warlock turns into armoured battlesuit for Doug" routine.

But now, as the next arc features the return of the Ani-Mator, the good old days are back, as the cover for issue 40 (by Kris Anka) shows...

M'boys, back in action together!! YAY! (I want an action figure of that so bad....)
And speaking of cute guys (and ladies) from the 1980's in cool armour!
Toie have announced that a completely new Saint Seiya anime is starting in Japan on 1 April! News article here
Saint Seiya Omega features a new cast (with a couple of possible returning characters, it's unclear how much of a reboot or sequel it is) and some new Cloths...

Kōga is a 13-year-old boy who assumed the role of the Bronze Saint of the Pegasus constellation. His undefeatable spirit and rebellious nature are strong, as is his single-minded determination. He meets the Saints and comes to learn about the importance of friendship and bonds. His special technique is the "Fist of the Pegasus Meteor."
Saori Kido also appears as the protector of peace and all living things on Earth — and the woman who raised Kōga like a parent. She is the incarnation of the fighting goddess Athena. Mars, a warrior of the red planet, kidnaps Athena to establish a new world order, and Kōga stands up against Mars.
Other characters who appear include:
Could be fun! And might mean even MORE great action figures!

Date: 2012-02-09 12:05 pm (UTC)Though, given that was a nice piece of design in and of itself, perhaps it becomes an option for any Saint if they so wish. (I remember working on a fanfic which would have included fraternal twin Saints, Corona Australis and Corona Borealis and they'd each have worn half a mask, just to freak people out.)

Date: 2012-02-09 12:22 pm (UTC)There was an in-story explanation (That I think still holds) that Warlock is operating at much lower power levels than of old, since he has sworn off taking life unless in extremis (for ethical reasons, as well as the dangers of a Phalanx resurgence). He did kill a number of Exonim pilots during their invasion, and got a major power up as a result, but regurgitated the energy he acquired as soon as he could, feeling incredibly guilty.

I read this too, but... even vegetal life? I'm... not sure there's a logic here, else than "he was too powerful for the team". Besides, he could also feed by electricity, Magneto's power when channeled, or such things. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. ^^

Date: 2012-02-09 01:15 pm (UTC)(Why has the Aquila Cloth been demoted from Silver to Bronze?
and why do they all look like Magical Girls, boys included?)no subject
Date: 2012-02-09 01:28 pm (UTC)Simple answer; If it's a reboot, why not, it let's them use the Aquila Saint without having her be way beyond the others? (Personally I'd have gone for a new constellation, like Colombus the Dove myself, but that's just me)
If this is set after the original series (And an older Saori with a Gold Saint Seiya might suggest that) then they could have rearranged the ranking of Cloths in the meantime, or even, given the Bronze Boys proven ability to more than surpass Silver and Gold Saints on a regular basis, that the Bronze/Silver/Gold is now an indication of the power levels of the Saints themselves, rather than the Cloth, so Bronze Aquila could eventually graduate to Silver Aquila.
So it's like GX or MetalFusion
