Now I've tried to be open minded about the DCnU, I really have (to the point of REALLY annoying some people I didn't meant to in the process)

I've given the new Blue Beetle a chance, but it's taking an awfully long, and rather over-violent time to get anywhere as promising as Jaime's original run was.

I've accepted that we'll never see a decent handover from Dick's mentoring of Damian to Bruce taking him on, and that Dick Grayson has had his entire circus past basically turned from "Idyllic childhood" to "Narrowly escaped hell on Earth" and that he was apparently 16 when he first appeared as Robin (which defeats the whole bloody point of the character IMHO) Okay, maybe "accepted" is putting it a bit strongly for that one... but I'm working on it, honest)

I'm resigned to the fact that the unique Oracle has become a generic Batgirl.

I've accepted that the Teen Titans I knew and grew up with now never happened, or didn't happen in anything like the same way it did before. And that Wally West and Garth are unknown quantities now... along with a host of others.

And I'm also aware of how bizarre some of the "We have to make these the iconic versions of the characters" choices have been, when other media with vastly larger viewerships than any comic has had in decades are cheerfully misximg and matching the history to their hearts content, and making it WORK.

But there were some things I thought might be perhaps too low profile to be messed with THAT much,

BTW If you thought Harley's makeover was a bit much, just wait until you see this...

I'm indebted to the excellent resource at www.titanstower.com for these images. Well worth a look, especially if you need a reference on just about anything Titans related.

I've always had a soft spot for Lilith, thanks to my affection for superhumans whose powers are barely there at all.

This is Lilith as she appeared in the 1960's, when she first appeared and drawn by THE Titans artist of his era Nick Cardy. She never used a heroic code name, and never wore a flashy costume

Well, almost never, THIS is what she wore in her first appearance (But she was dancing professionally in a night club at the time so has a reason)

Her powers as they appeared then were low key. She was an esper, and a slightly hippyish one, she was prone to vibes and auras and was sensitive to both psychic and mystical phenomena, her "useful" powers amounted to some light telepathy and a low level precog power which allowed her to sense when things of import were due to happen and to make sure she was in the right place at the right time. She was seeking, more than anything, the truth about her own past, which she had no real memory of.

She was rarely a major player, she was a background character, or catalyst for stories and showed up now and again, coming to the assistance of the New Teen Titans during Trigon's invasion of Earth, and drawn by George Perez

Again, no costume per se, but her mental powers and disciplines were of great signiificance in defeating Trigon, as her mind was more in tune with Azar of Azarath's mind than most could hope to be...

This is her Who's Who entry from the late 1980's.

She continued to show up now and then in the NTT, most notably during a long run which had her be the object of affection obsession of Azrael, the worlds most boring Teen Titan EVER (Trust me, when you're a lovestruck amnesiac angel with a penchant for purple prose, you have NOWHERE to go but down).

Lilith was eventually given an origin which made her the daughter of Thia of the Titans of Myth, and which saw her leave Earth for Olympus, but this was a past which was messed up during the Crisis on Infinite Earths and she more or less vanished from view for ages.

During the abortive Dan Jurgens Teen Titans reboot (Which was never very good, but had some beautiful Jurgens and Perez art) a new character was introduced, a mysterious figure by the name of Omen, who was never seen outside of their voluminous robes, to the extent it wasn't clear if Omen was male or female (And the script occasionally went through verbal gymnastics to avoid the use of pronouns).

Clearly known to several of the cast, their ID was left deliberately vague. They had some sort of premonition type power and teleportation (Which suggested Raven more than anyone) the eventual reveal after a year of the title that Omen was Lilith (looking like she always had apart from the robes), was something of a "Hunh?" moment.

She explained, sort of, that her powers had grown because of her discovery of who her mother was (Though she never said who she was) and also revealed that Mr Jupiter, a former Titans sponsor and mentor during the 1960's was her father. She was also a "psychic mirror" picking up parts of people's personalities simply by neing near them and her psychic powers kicking it... Again, what this meant was never explained (except that people tended to see her as someone other than she was when she unveiled)

Some time later she was killed off by a Superman robot in "Graduation Day" (about which the less said the better) and came back a couple of times as a ghost-zombie (When Kid Eternity has his powers usurped) and then again in Blackest Night when she came back as a Black Lantern.

So when it was announced that Omen would be appearing in the new Teen Titans run, I was intrigued, how would this fairly pacifist, low key character survive the transition to the new DCU set up... I let myself get interested... You think I'd have learned by now....

THIS is Omen in the DCnU...

Oy....

A blind (though she sees through the eyes of others) psychic sadist who appears to have the sort of power that Chris Claremont tended to give... well, nearly every villain he created.

I weep for the future....

And a couple more pages.....

Two pages and two half pages to be exact.

Have to say, I LIKE Cassie's complete armour, though Saint Seiya fan that I am, I want to see it change into something....

And well, because it's me... a little strapped down Robin.... as we meet Harvest, the architect of this Titans/Legion crossover arc.

Tim goes Iron Man by way of Tron?

Well, actually the whole team does.. clearly NOWHERE bought a lof old prop suits from T2on (Cassie notes that she appears to be dressed as Superboy's prom date, and is NOT happy)

But you know me, I believe is a little equal opportunity strapping down...

Aw, don't they look cute in their matching suits... (Though I'm not happy about the "Tim is prepared to kill" that underlies the scene leading up to this)

And then we get another Claremont-ian villain, see if you can see why I make that comparison...

To be fair, Tim says from practically page one that she's being manipulated and brainwashed into Harvest's pawn. That's way too much set-up for her not to end up helping them in the end.

Personally, I didn't even realize it was a revamped character until I started reading discussions after I read it--I remember seeing Lilith a few times, but not enough for her to really make an impression on me.

didn't you also say that she acted as a psychic mirror? picking up other people's personality traits? because if she has been kept in that environment.... i definitely see this as probable.... I am definitely intrigued though....

I was wondering if they just recycled the Omen name too, much like Thunder and Lightning but Roy actually mentioned Lilith's name in RHatO which Lobdell also writes. So it appears NuLilith may be following the old Titans tradition of at some point going evil and terrorizing other Titans.

I was amazed at seeing a character like Lilith, a groovy hippie chick who was reduced to canon fodder in the old DCU, survive and actually acknowledged in the New 52. It gave me some hope for other screwed over characters getting a second chance in the New 52 but then...

Yeah, this guy seems more like "I will finally see my Tron/Teen Titans crossover fic become a reality! Muahaha, mine is an evil laugh!"

This Omen reminds me more of Mortis -- remember her? from BoP? -- than of Lilith. Certainly the costume, and also the attitude.

Nothing light-hearted is being allowed to stand in the New 52, is it? I am developing a real sad with all this.

The first panel of the last page made me think Bandana McChinbeard was going to speak in rhyme. Little disappointed that didn't end up being the case.

Aaaaand this continues my streak of being totally okay about not reading the Titans. They don't look awful or anything, just not good enough to justify reading them.

That basically seems to be the opinion of NOWHERE, which is why Tim's trying to stop them.

Thats because this looks like a bad Image comics from the 90.

And dont get me wrong I got the first 100 issues of Spawn and a huge bunch of Witchblade, even watched the Wildcats cartoon.

But this is so bad.

was the whole armor thing on cassie true on the old universe? Because is so BS that she dont get to have powers of her own

The more titles I see from the DCnU, the more I hope it gets "Heroes Reborn"-ed.

As someone who hated the Omen thing, this doesn't really seem much worse to do to the character of Lilith, who was a pretty impressive character for her time, a teen runaway with a job, a motorcycle, a van, and her own mission to find her birth parents (without waiting for Robin to help!) while also aiding Jupiter and the Titans. (No way do I believe that a psychic like Lil would be unaware that Jupiter was her father if it were indeed true. Nor would real Lil be fooled by a Supebot! Omen was obviously an android;thus the private burial.)

I'm so glad I'm not reading this. I prefer to refer my Omen/Lilith (still a "groovy" go-go chick in the 90s) the way she was.

One of the (many) reasons I loathe Graduation Day was the way she was so insultingly killed off (by a malfunctioning Superman robot) just to provide cannon fodder (they had already killed off Donna - who came back - in the same manner so it was unnecessary). Of all the bad stuff Judd Winick has written - along with the retcon of Ice/Tora, GD was the worst.

Even if Donna still didn't come back, Lilith's death was completely overshadowed by Donna's. I remember reading that her funeral was quite small opposed to Donna's. As if we needed more proof Winick should stay far away from the Titans franchise...Or better yet the majority of comics out there.

I agree with you completely. Just looking back it seemed to emphasize that GD was mostly about Donna's death and remembered mainly for that (A beloved well known Titan in-universe and in fandom). While, poor Lilith (a more low-key character) was just an extra body thrown in for hell of it.

The veil on her costume really gives it some sort of "dark bride" vibe to Nu!Omen...

Also agree that Cassie's full armor is quite nice. AND soon it'll go all spikey in a couple issues.

That’s amazing. I mean, it’s incredible. I wouldn’t think people could make comics this awful even if they tried. I mean, I’ve seen the other nU fiascos, and you gave plenty of warning so I braced myself, and even then I was still surprised by the amount of suck. She was a cool character… my condolences.
