Flash stops Reverse Flash from messing up the timeline and gives him a big speech about "moving forward". Now, I'm a big Flash fan, but I think of this as a bit hypocritical coming from Barry considering he retconned the universe TWICE.

Okay, am I the only one who feels like this is the writers being like "Stop complaining about the old world and accept the reboot isn't going away."? Is it just me?

I think that's pretty much the company wide attitude over at DC these days. The old DCU isn't coming back we'll just have to wait till the fans of it grow up take over the offices and reboot everything into a New and Improved (yeah right) version of it just like the current crop of Silver age fans did.

It strikes me as intended to be that, but coming across more as, "Hey, you know what I did during Flashpoint? Yea, total mistake."

Okay, forgot about that one for a second--E2!Superman's message to Clark at the end especially felt like the Superman and Batman of the old continuity passing the torch to the new.

Oh, wait, I did see this... so those were the pre-Nu52 guys? Weird.

Those were the Earth Two guys, who I think were more in common with the Pre-Crisis guys? Although I'm not sure.

They are from Earth Two, but due to their statuses and roles in the story, can be read as symbolizing the older pre-reboot versions of the characters.

Ah, so Earth 2 is no longer Golden Age versions, then?

There have been a bunch of scans from the Earth Two title posted around here. Basically, those scans I linked earlier are set in the past. Afterwards, Darkseid invaded; Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman died in the war; Alan Scott and Jay Garrick and so on are the new heroes of Earth; &so on.

How is this any more of a reminder than the dozens of other "misguided guy tries to change history" stories that crop up all the time in sci-fi? It's a pretty common plot type.

Because in this case, it's coming from the character that caused the reboot in the first place.

I agree that they're essentially saying to move on, but the line about "dealing with bad things that happen to us" doesn't strike me as the most complimentary thing about the DCnu.

I think it's much easier to read it as the opposite, a criticism against reboots, put in the mouth of the character who rebooted things.

He may not even be an Allen this time around since the surname Allen was just something he was given when he was sent to the past.

IIRC Bart's "real" name has been given as Bar Tor, which might be a nod to his father being one of the Tornado Twins in the old continuity.

It may be a nod but that doesn't mean the Tornado Twins even exist or have the same parents this time around. Nu52 Superboy has already shown that previous parentage doesn't always apply.

Since the Tornado Twins are the natural twin kids of Barry Allen and Iris West's cloned body who were born and raised in the 30th Century and were honorary members of the Legion which is now revealed to be the future of Earth-2, I'd be very surprised if DC went down that road at all too! :)

Just because Barry and Iris aren't together now, doesn't mean it can't happen later on and start the Allen family line.

True that. Ever erased character, every hero cut down before their prime or had their potential erased, every single thing wrong with the reboot is in-verse BARRY'S FAULT.

And, in terms of characterisation, totally hypocritical in that this speech about moving forward prompts Barry to look into his mother's murder, and set us back on the road to Flashpoint and OH GOD IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN.
