Teen Titans #27 - Kid Flash in Kangaroo Court

You'll recall that during the whole Forever Evil megillah, the Titans got stuck bouncing at random through a whole mess of fractured timelines and Raven was called upon to stitch them together and reunite the group. Doing so landed them in the future in TT #25 where Kid Flash and Solstice watched pre-KF Bar Tor commit his heinous crimes.

In TT #26 Kid Flash recovered his memories and explained it all to the Titans - his parents' deaths at the hands of the Functionary for continuing to worship God, Bar's escape with his little sister, leaving her in an orphanage while he went off to start the Revolution, his turning himself in to Echo when he realized their big strike had killed his sister - and the Titans were horrified.

Now, the Functionary has put Bart in the dock for the Trial of the Century.









"YOU planned this all along?!" cries 'Superboy' - actually Harvest's boy Jon Lane Kent, who unbeknownst to all but Raven was switched with Kon on another time-bounce - while thinking to himself "He may be smarter than the others."



This reads a bit awkwardly because it's cut from a two-page spread.

Bar replies to Solstice, "No, it's VICTORY. Now get out of my way." Red Robin declares "We may not know who you are, 'Bart,' but you know us. We're not going to stand by and let you kill all these people." Leading back in to Bar on the bottom panel, "There's a very very small part of me..." page cut "That is sorry to hear you say that."

Leading neatly into the final splash page with Bar yelling to his revolutionaries, "KILL THEM! KILL THEM ALL!!!!" and the Titans swinging into action.

...Huh. Well, I guess this means that when Wally comes in, the Kid Flash costume might be ready for him. Plus since he isn't actually "Bart Allen," they could introduce the actual Bart later on.

Yeah, I get the feeling they're just about ready to dump everything out of this iteration of Teen Titans now that it's canceled, except maybe Bunker.

I still can't get over this. Superboy is killed and replaced. Larfleeze's memories MIGHT be just figments of crazy, and the Lobo that first introduced and is true to the old timeline is considered to be fake in favor of some Twilight Biker Douche... as anything we have been following been true at all!?!

So... everything we have read about Superboy and Bart up until this point... was pointless... can't wait the heel turn on those heel turns too. Like maybe this was like ANOTHER Harvester plan and we somehow gotten Thad...

Weirdly, I think we did see something like that when Bart first returned to his own time with his mother. IIRC the two of them gave some sort of totalitarian computer a nervous breakdown thanks to their completely random approach to fighting it, to the extent it couldn't predict their actions at all (We got to see where Bart got his really impulsive side, and it wasn't the Allen genes...)

Oddly enough, this reminds me of that Avengers issue where the Illuminati try to defend an alternate Earth from Galactus. An alternate Earth they, themselves, were minutes away from blowing up.

There's "being a true hero" and there's "throwing your life away because you'd feel bad later."

I'm starting to wonder if that's not Bart. If that's actually Inertia, also somehow still around after FLASHPOINT, it would make as much sense as anything else.

I'm sorry why and I suppose to be on the Titans side? Its a freaking war. Just because Bart happens to be winning I am suppose to side with the Titans? What business to they have getting involved with a civil war of a culture they know nothing about?

And to think I felt really bad for Bart in the last issue when we find out how his sister died.

My only thought about last issue was the same one I had when they randomly redid Timber Wolf's origin in Legion Lost #0: Gee, I've read pieces of this in lots of other places, and usually done better.

Of course, it may be that the entire "dead sister" story was a hoax to sell the Functionary on Echo witness protection for Bar, in which case, the staleness sortakinda makes a little backhanded sense.

Fun fact: Back in 90s Bart Allen was supposed to be mockery of Bar Torr type characters in X-Men.

This whole Teen Titan run can be summed up in the first nightmare sequence of Young Justice's first issue. What a prophecy it was.

Yeah, it's like what I've always said about the Blue Beetle reboot: It's like they read the Rogers/Giffen/Hamner et al run and said hey, let's take everything that's fun and charming and beloved about this series and do the TOTAL OPPOSITE! it'll be RADICAL! and EDGY!

Sir, I know Bart Allen, and you, sir, are no Bart Allen!

I'm guessing that Bat-Tor will kill Super-Fake or Super-Fake will kill Bar-Tor since he doesn't really care for Metas. Possibly they'll team up but I doubt Future!Robin would have gone to the bother to swap out Super-Sons unless it was an advantage to him. Since Tim Drake is supposed to have Bruce Wayne's cunning and brains, I'm gonna guess that Future Robin plans on Bar-Tor and Super-Fake killing one another while the Titans clean up the rest of the revolutionaries. I have a feeling Real Superboy isn't dead since he "died" off-screen (Even dying on-screen isn't a guarantee that someone won't come back to life). Real Superboy will likely pop up in time to save the Titans from Trigon in some kind of Forever Evil crossover issue.
