I've enjoyed Gillen's run up to this point but his take on Storm feels so off - like the larger plot requires her to be more aggro towards Charles and the others than she normally would be. It's not like she never made mistakes as a leader, like bad things never happened on her watch.

It could even be a plot point that her time on Arakko is hardening her in ways that aren't necessarily helpful, but that would take much more than one issue to unpack.

The irony is deliciously tragic, everyone was compromised and she couldn’t see the danger until it was too late, so she puts her trust in someone compromised and she won’t see the danger until it is too late. That or she’s just a horrible judge of character.

Like she's been married to a monarch, she's been a goddess. She won leadership by single combat or by appointment, but she never struck me as the kind of person who really understands the need for representative government.

I love Emma here, but there's definitely a case of Ororo holding the idiot ball for all this to work. Colossus has been compromised so many times at this point it's basically his default state. When he's not just being naturally awful.

I'm begging any X-Writer to let Emma be wrong for once. Or too actually acknowledge she is actually a bad person sometimes and not just a fierce girlboss.

Gillen isn't nearly as bad as Duggan but its still there.

It's been discussed several times on another forum I'm part of that some writers are harder on paragon characters than they are on villains or antiheroes. When characters like Storm or Steve Rogers screw up, the narrative seems to come down harder on them than they do someone with less scruples like Emma.

Well, given Kate's history of questionable-to-terrible decisions, it's not so surprising.
Even if her alternative isn't exactly better.

And it's not like she doesn't remember what happened with Piotr when he was a Phoenix host, power ampilifies his less wholesome tendencies, even when he's not being controlled by his brother.

Speaking of, how exactly has Piotr's brainwashing gone this long without anyone discovering it? Xavier and Jean Grey respecting his privacy by not reading his mind makes sense, but Hope? Exodus? Emma Frost? (Okay, I can see Emma regarding his mind as so simple and boring that she wouldn't read it unless there's a specific reason to do so...)
