And I'd put money on it being nothing like you might expect

Embiggened cover under the cut

Marvel announces a new Avengers series, written by Al Ewing, Leonard Kirk on Art and Daniel Acuna on covers.

It kicks off with a deadly conspiracy rooted in the ghosts of the Avengers’ past that only founding Avenger Wasp can solve. But she won’t be alone as she finds a new partner in Victor Shade! This former alias of Vision mysteriously resurfaces just as Janet discovers a score of super villain murders. Will he guide Wasp to the truth or is his familiar guise hiding the very clues Janet needs to crack the case? Fans can expect guest stars galore as this pulse-pounding series moves forward. The series will also pack direct connections to the other current Avengers ongoing series, Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa’s Avengers.

Her name is Janet Van Dyne. She’s a hero. She’s a celebrity. She’s hunting a killer. His name is Victor Shade. He’s a villain. He’s an enigma. He just got killed. And together, they’re out to solve every mystery in the Marvel Universe…starting with their own.

“AVENGERS INC. takes the beating, buzzing heart of the original Avengers, teams her up with an undead mystery man with an identity so secret even he doesn’t know it, and sends them both out to solve the most amazing, fantastic and uncanny whodunnits the Marvel Universe has to offer!” Ewing explained. “It’s kind of a classic ‘will-they-won’t-they’ crime-solving partnership – or it would be if the ‘will-they’ in question was ‘save the world from…’ well, that’d be telling. See you in September!”

“I am unsure what can be said of AVENGERS INC. without spoiling anything for the readers. I can say this is a fun and intriguing take on some familiar characters that leans more into detective skills over super strength, wit rather than eye beams and cunning instead of small, genetically mutated, furry creatures,” Kirk added. “Al is doing a bang up job with this and I am having a load of fun. I hope the audience does too.”

Colour me intrgued by this one.

I've tagged this with char: vision, but I'm not sure that this Vic Shade exactly IS Vision... we shall see.

Is there a chance he's the original (alien) Vision. Ewing's pulled the deep cuts before...

A new series by Ewing is always interesting.
But that makes 4 ongoings. I hope he'll be ok.

I wouldn't mind if he stopped both Venom and X-Men Red to do another series featuring a mix of New Warriors and New Mutants.

Since this series is about solving mysteries in the Marvel Universe, I wonder if he dropped the idea to do more stuff with the 3X. I sure would have been more excited by a comics featuring Night Trasher and Blue Marvel.

Isn't Venom co-written, at least for the street-level stuff?

And honestly X-Men Red is probably gearing up for its ending with Fall of X.

It was co-written with Ram V, and now with Torun Groenbekk. It also seems to be gearing up to its' big conflict.

Hell yeah.
This obviously springs off of Whirlwind’s murder in the just concluded Wasp mini.

This isn’t likely to be the Vision… the article describes him as a villain who just got killed, an undead enigma… so it’s anyone’s guess and with Ewing, it could very well be a really deep cut.

It might be Carlo Zota (late of the "Defenders: There Are No Rules" run), back to redeem himself again.

1. It's Ewing.

2. It's Ewing's Wasp, and as his recent mini showed, Ewing's take on Janet van Dyne is awesome.

3. Daniel Acuña's muted color palette means we'll get some great noir covers.

4. It's Ewing.

Berto would pawn his Magnum P.I. collection to get in on this. Hope he gets a cameo at least.

When I saw the title of the book I immediately hoped Roberto would be in it as some sort of offshoot of his U.S.Avengers/AIM-owning days.

Intriguing.
(oop, hold on a sec. Jan in a pinstripe suit seems to have set me brain on fire...)

Ahem. Anyway.
If it turns out Not Vis is actually Hank Pym, that would be unusual.
It's obviously not going to be Jonas because, hey, who cares about some Young Avenger, amirite?

Shame Percy has rendered Beast utterly radioactive because this seems like the sort of thing 80s Beast would've given his limbs for.
"For the ninth time, Hank, you can wear the hat and the trenchcoat, but for the love of everything you are not doing an Edward G. Robinson impression!"
"Awww..."
"... ... alright, alright! You can try Bogart."
"Yay!"
"But not in front of any actual cops!"

Anything by Ewing's an automatic purchase from me. His stories are more consistently actually *about* something than any other current superhero writer, I'd say. By which I mean the stories are not just concerned with being entertaining but actually have something to say. In this regard, only Tom King at the other company even comes close.

So, to get editorial to allow him to do a Wasp ongoing, Ewing has to allow Avengers to be put into the title?

Not sure how 'Incorporated' works as a subtitle - unless, as the person to coin the team name (ignoring all those nonsense BC Avengers retcons) Jan is taking the brand back from Tony.

I mean, part of the Wasp miniseries involved her being reimagined as the quintessential Avenger, even imagining a world where that was her codename.

Yet despite that, she can't headline an ongoing series. They coulda called it 'Wasp: The First Avenger' or summat.

Did just finish reading the trade of "Defenders: There Are No Rules", where the supplementary material floats the possibility of the Blue Marvel, Night Thrasher and Jimmy Woo as the new "Three Xs" taking over from the classic trio of scientists who were somehow involved in the earliest history of the Marvel U. Perhaps they'll be involved here also...?

If Night Thrasher is involved, every story would begin with him strolling in, revealing he's solved everything already, and walking back out again.
Then the rest of the story is everyone else trying to catch up.

That might upset Woo's dragon (or the dragon who has Woo, either or). No one likes spoilers, and dragons have ways to make their dislike known. Ways that include ketchup.

If we've learned anything from DnD, it's that Rule of Cool should - nay must - take precedent over all others.

NT shows up on the scene, it's like Tony Hawk but superpowered. Moves so sick the Dragon forgets how to breathe fire.

A Squirrel Girl / NT team-up is just a montage of two-page stories where they effortlessly thwart various villains, and the occasional one page of Doreen just trying to get him to have fun.

This looks absolutely ridiculous. Get a real detective on the job, like Jessica Jones.
