Well, Marvel finally gave their annual Pride anthology the squarebound treatment rather than the usual staples, so that's an improvement. Still having a #1 issue with the same title several years in a row though, the contents pages remain a nightmare and they have ads interrupt stories rather than place them in-between, so nothing's perfect.

Oh yeah, and not everyone on the cover is within the issue.

Sarah Gailey, story; Bailie Rosenlund, pencils and inks; Rachelle Rosenburg, colors; Ariana Maher, letters.

Date: 2023-06-18 08:43 pm (UTC)I mean, my favorite story in the last DC Pride issue was a Conner Hawke / Tim Drake story that would have been unthinkable not long ago both because the Nu 52 stole them from us and they were both closeted when they vanished.
And again, I've loved The Ray since the Priest mini and now they only bring him back when they need to fill out a crowd scene in one of these things.
(I feel like I'm taking about DC Pride 2023 a lot on this Marvel Pride 2023 thread but that's because I've actually read the former)
Do all the characters on the Marvel Pride 2023 cover make it into the interior of the comic? I'm still not over last year's bait and switch.

Date: 2023-06-18 10:29 pm (UTC)Sadly, you're right in that comics go in cycles where this year's popular new character, the one who shows up for the big crossover events and is wildly useful for 5 minutes, is next year's crowd-filler. One year it's the Ray, one year it's Damage, this year it was the Monkey Prince...
And anyone who's a fan of these B/C/D listers knows the same sensation.
