i'm confused... what happened? I understand that "Adam" and Theo have been separated.... but what is up with Malik? if Malik has adams powers, isn't he the human anchor now?

Malik has been screwed by Theo throughout the mini-series. He was forcefully by death to get powers that he never wanted. Theo transfer the medical disease that was killing him into him. He was used as a tool to used against Theo enemies. And lastly
Theo Stole Malik girlfriend.

I can understand why Malik did save Theo being beaten by homeless thugs.

That still doesn't explain how Malik can have powers while Black Adam exists as a separate entity. It doesn't look like either of them aren't at peak power.

The Shazam power can always be shared, it's the origin of Mary, CM3, the current family, and historically the Lt Marvels'.

It's Malik's fault for not just letting Theo be dead. He was explicitly told that Theo Adam was NOT a good man. That he should just let him die. Malik, however, seems to have a problem with listening.
