The players all rolled up characters, and the GM throws them into the opening scene, a simple call to action with warg-ridin' orcs attacking a town. The town's children, even. Whiule all the other players whole-heartedly throw themselves into the battle, Mary's player sits back asking why her character should care.

So why exactly was Curse allowed to attend an important diplomatic event like the Gala?

As with many things that took place at the Gala, 'to allow plots we want to have in future stories to happen' is the real reason.
