He's thrashing through the streets of Gotham, racked by an azmer of the Orgham family's.
He's running in his head too, being pursued through memories by that demon.
Outside his head, he's being pursued by Gotham police, who want him for the destruction that the Orghams maneuvered him into.

" What the hell does Batman want with it? "
Batman was revisiting Morton's in his head, remembering a moment in his youth with his father.
" Your grandpa brought me down here all the time, but especially if he'd had a bad day at work. "

The warm light of the memory present-day Bruce " watched " went harsh - Thomas spoke to him, urged him onwards.
He went, the azmer devouring his wake and still nipping at his heels.
Outside his head, at the Gotham Reservoir, the other hounds on his tail were talking to Killer Croc.

" .. that wasn't no man in no suit.. not tonight.
" Clowns found that out the hard way. "
Croc went on to other " game in town huntin' the Bat ":

" Looks like the damn end of the world out there. "
Fielding and his partner Nash continued.
Nash wondered about the fairgrounds behind them: " Why would you abandon some freak-show carnival in the middle of Gotham, of all places? "
Fielding noted that it'd been " bought up a while back for redevelopment, but nothing was ever done with it, I guess. "
" By whom? "
" Wayne.. Wayne Enterprises. "
Batman was remembering the purchase:

(Those fairgrounds had been used by Haly's Circus.)

Nightwing the memory fell into the maw of the pursing azmer.
The shock of that brought to Batman the awareness of being on his knees in his own " place of deathly comfort ".

Batman spoke to that other figure opposite the azmer.

" .. long enough, perhaps, to survive.

(The crackling purple is Barbatos holding off the azmer.)
Fielding noticed the blip: " Got another sighting. "
Nash, in the driver's seat, asked " Where am I going? "

(" The Swimmer " is an adaptation of a John Cheever short story - it's a man " swimming " through his neighborhood, with each stop he makes a reflection on him.
