I think we settled on Avengers Inc. because it suggested a private investigation firm. It's quite telegenic. It doesn't make too many noir promises. (Our dark secret is that this is shaping into a pretty fun series.) -- Al Ewing
A series ending far, far too soon, alas. And, given the way the current issue shaped up, I honestly feel like it was... rushed.
I'd have enjoyed a far slower burn of a mystery regarding the true identity of Victor Shade, the nature of the "super-villain serial killer" and so forth. Just... a year or so of Janet and "Victor" solving weird-ass superhuman mysteries, drawing in all manner of specialized consultants to tackle everything from locked room to time travel to clones to... eh. whatever.
At least we can enjoy what we've gotten, especially since some people were right in that Ewing's Ant-Man and Wasp minis were, apparently, setting up a certain restoration of a character (with what appears to be a little MCU synergy?)
(Also, the idea that Whirlwind is technically part of the Death-Throws because he um... throws buzzsaws... is silly even for a juggling-themed villain team, dangit. And I say this as someone who loves those goofy baddies.)
I was pretty ticked when I found out the series was ending at 5 issues. At least it'll get some sort of closure. But yeah, it would have been better to let things slowly play out.
It's actually cancelled? Well, not to put too fine a point on it, that sucks. ... at only five issues. How bad do the sales have to be on that? Thought Ewing had a little more cachet than that by now...
Damn shame, because this is a fun and engaging series. (I'mma go ahead and just convince meself it's on an entirely unscheduled, indefinite hiatus.)
Odin making a plot to protect Thor and then lashing out at Jan for potentially ruining it is peak Odin.

Date: 2024-01-05 01:38 am (UTC)So little seems to last these days, especially the good or interesting stuff. Makes me wonder what people look for in their comics these days.
