Skipping an issue because it's part of a Special Missions crossover, we go now to the Clutch and Rock&Roll storyline.

I'm having trouble picturing 'liquid bubble gum' as a concept. Wouldn't simple Pepto Bismol make more sense? Or is that too low-class for the Baroness to know about?

Destro puts a stop to their bickering--and you'd think a guy as clever as him would come up with a better solution than just expecting Zarana and the Baroness to get along. Unless he wants the Baroness to regularly get into catfights, in which case, respect.

The Dreadnoks are sent off with the prisoners, and the Baroness alerting the Joes to make for a convincing 'rescue'. Although why they wouldn't regard this tip as suspiciously as Clutch and Rock&Roll simply turning up out of the blue, I don't know. Perhaps the B's judgment is simply clouded by hatred for Zarana.

Snake Eyes decides to go through with the operation (since this is a kids' comic, Hama has Scarlett spell out why) and we get a look at him with no mask.

I mean, he's not a shoo-in for America's Next Top Model or anything, but this doesn't LOOK like the sort of thing that'd require a groundbreaking, radical, incredibly painful new procedure to fix, even in 1989. It gives more... "B-plot on Nip/Tuck," really.
Meanwhile, the Joes manage to round up the Dreadnoks, but this happens.

The Dreadnoks manage to get away in the confusion, which... doesn't exactly dispel questions of the Joes' professionalism.

Raise your hand if your backstory personally ties in with Snake Eyes.

It's worth noting these are much the same tactics used by the CIA in the Joeverse. Do with that information what you willl.

Date: 2024-03-01 02:52 pm (UTC)Nothing is so frightening as what's behind the closed door. The audience holds its breath along with the protagonist as she/he (more often she) approaches that door. The protagonist throws it open, and there is a ten-foot-tall bug. The audience screams, but this particular scream has an oddly relieved sound to it. “A bug ten feet tall is pretty horrible”, the audience thinks, ”but I can deal with a ten-foot-tall bug. I was afraid it might be a hundred feet tall”.
