In many ways, Mastermind's plan was completely stupid.
Step 1: Turn Jean Grey eviiiiiil.
No step 2. That's the entire plan. Turn her muderously evil, hedonistic and capricious and assume, somehow, he could keep her under his control indefinitely.

And his fate here would've been the perfect place to leave him. Having fulfilled his plan, he's then left a drooling vegetable forever.
But... you know Claremont. Not exactly one to leave well enough alone.
He loves him his hallucinations, so Jason comes back from this.


Also, he unleashed a whole swathe of purple prose right there.
He deserves a mind-frying just for that.

Honestly, this should have been the end of Mastermind. Bringing him back just diminishes this moment and elevates him.
