Genetech has been managing things from behind the scenes. Now it is time for them to unveil their own team of super-humans. Get ready for Psionex!

Ah, the innocence of the 90s, where an evil corporation being caught throws up its hands and goes "gosh, maybe we did go wrong. We'll try and do better in the future."
As opposed to now where they'd just go "yeah? So what? We're a huge corporation. You can't stop us!"

Spoiler alert: While Harmon Furmintz remains fundamentally well-intentioned, he does not, in fact, learn is lesson. That ends ... poorly, for him and everyone else.

Somehow, that is not terribly surprising.

I'm surprised no one ever did anything with Pretty Persuasions and the Hellfire Club

I remember Teenage Boy Me having a some Vaguely Confusing Feelings about that character.

As an adult, the lack of nuance there is ... eesh. No thank you.

Pretty Persuasions suffers from what I like to call "Supervillainess Category Limitation Syndrome".

if you are a villainess, chances you are either:

* A femme fatale

* A misandrist

* A woman scorned

* A female lackey

Hats off to Poison Ivy who has been all four.

Edit: I don't think it's a coincidence that Pretty Persuasions's initials are P.P.

Well...that was a downright embarrassing display. Maybe make sure the people are competent before giving them super powers, eh?

As last words go, "That wasn't very bright" at least has a certain honesty to it.

Who'd have thunk that the guy named "Impulse" wouldn't think things through?

[Insert Young Justice joke here]

Edit:

I guess that was Coronary. The rest of the team is so visually distinctive and then you have a guy in white and a glass* guy.

*I think? He has the Silver Surfer / Iceman / Early Moon Knight problem where he gets drawn as white a lot even if he's not supposed to be.

Psionex does return later with enhanced abilities and prove why giving them powers was a bad idea.

Not gonna lie, Asylum looks rad...if very 90s.

It's been a running joke with characters like Nighthawk, Angel, and Iron Fist before but I think the subtext is basically text here; they really only seem to be putting up with Thrasher because he has money. Thankfully he mellows a bit eventually.

Asylum was the biggest blank slate on the team, but they never did anything with them.

Pretty Persuasion tends to show up in random one-offs for things like the Initiative. I think Impulse was an Initiative candidate as well.

Mathemanic's abstract powers always felt like they gave him the most potential, but would require a very good writer. I'd love to see what Ewing could do with him.

Yeah, I read those issues ages ago but Mathemanic and Pretty Persuasion are the only ones I have any real memory of.

I looked them up and Asylum has less than half as many appearances as Coronary (the next least featured). Pretty Persuasion has the most appearances...can't imagine why. ;)

"Escrim stick in the face." is a delightful bit of dialogue.

I've never understood what Impulse's powers are supposed to be.

"He can act as violently as he thinks!"

Err, we can all do that.

He's supposed to have superhuman speed and reflexes but you'd never know from the Thrashing he's getting here.

He's the Spider-Man you ordered on Wish.

Well, maybe the Ricochet you got from Temu.

No shame in being beaten by Night-Trasher.
Guy's got a skateboard.
