On the one hand, writing " depowering " is " yeah, they're dealing with diminished capabilities, that's a thing that happens to people " - on the other hand, it's " well, they weren't tearing off every door they opened at full power previously, so maybe them solely being ' Oh no this is so new and different to me ' is a bit much? "
I mean, to me, it's like going from avoiding ripping a door off its hinges without trying to having to figure out just how much force it takes to actually open the door.
I'm not especially well-versed in DC - does M'gann have powers above and beyond being martian, or does she just have the abilities of a baseline martian?
M'gann having difficulties with her strength does kind of raise that ol' debate about what truly constitutes a power when it's a natural thing for a species. (Like that time Bendis seemed convinced Hawkeye's archery skills were a power, and when he got zapped with a power nullifier he couldn't even hold a bow.)
Nightwing better be careful, the rate this is going, his butt might fall off. Because that's definitely a superpower.
I had the same thought recently with regards to this series -- technically, people like M'Gann and J'onn or Clark don't have "super powers" in the same since metahumans do. Their abilities are natural for their species.
Canceling out a Kryptonian or Martian's powers is like, say, turning off a spider's ability to make webs.
All in all, even for comic science, the "turn off every power, tech, or mystical ability" is a bit much.
