Vision and the Scarlet Witch give the knock-off Justice League a thorough thrashing. Good.

The Squadron Supreme - doomed to forever be duped, mind-controlled or enraged into fighting with other heroes every freaking time.
Really, it's amazing Earth-712 lasted as long as it did, and that the Squadron weren't the ones responsible when it finally went.

After the maxi-series, Golden Archer and Lark's interaction is unsettling.
But it does make Vision zapping his ass more satisfying.

I still love the fact that when the Avengers actually met the Justice League for real, Hawkeye called them a bunch of Squadron Supreme wannabes and said they were probabaly being mind controlled.

I seem to recall Clint also calling out the actual Squadron in the Busiek/Perez era and asking them who was mind-controlling them this time.

These guys were really underdeveloped at this point, weren't they? They read like someone trying to do Bronze-Age Justice League only everyone is an asshole. I know that's kind of the elevator pitch for these characters, but it's not so blatant in their later appearances.

Hyperion has a bit of a Stupendous Man vibe too. "I'm so glad my position as greatest superhero ever means that I can't be interested in icky WOMEN!" Yes, all alpha males are notoriously asexual, that’s totally how it works.

Even early Perez is pretty great, though, and the vibe between Wanda and Viz makes it clear how those two got a TV series.

Hey, they're not just arseholes.
They're also idiots.
(much as I like the Squadron, they can be pretty darn stupid.)

Given how their inspirations could act in the Silver Age, maybe Englehart felt he had to up the quotient because the Squadron are the enemy here.
And given how arseholish Green Arrow could be, that does take some doing.

Re-reading Hype here and later on in the maxi-series, him actually being ace almost seems plausible, what with his going on about "I dare not have sex with a woman, lest they explode!"
Then he starts a relationship with Zarda, which shoots that theory all to pieces...
