If there's one thing 90s Hal was known for, it is dramatically revealed name changes.

Plus he got all the revenge killing usually associated with the Spectre out of his system beforehand.

These days the Spectre feels a lot less like God's Wrath and a lot more like God's Human Shield.

Why does everyone keep jobbing the Spectre? I don't care how powerful Evil Raven has gotten, she shouldn't be able to do a damn thing against him, let alone capture him like that. HE'S THE WRATH OF GOD!

So...is this happening during Absolute Power? I would laugh my ass off if Trigon got taken out by Amazos.

Fiction accords fallibility and limitations to every other religious and mythological figure - there's no reason a fictional representative of capital-G God should be exempt from that.

I think it’s more exasperation of how utterly meaningless that title is when applied to the Spectre because he’s never used it in any meaningful capacity for the longest time when his sole existence is dedicated to getting argued against and dunked on. It’s like how Captain Atom’s only purpose these days is to get beaten up and/or explode, or how utterly useless Ghost Rider’s penance stare is with the amount of caveats it has since everyone and their grandmother keeps tanking or no-selling it.
