Issue #2'd ended on them and their missing colleague Hildur's dog having only one way to go.
The depths of what they'd went into in search of Hildur, what they comprehended on some level as a giant corpse's throat, yawned before them.
Selva, Entomologist of this Scientific Institute for Nascent Ecology and Worlds team, set up their descent.

Down went Selva, Abby the Surveyor, Zara the Geologist, and Galko the dog.

They came to a " blockage " - " Maybe this thing choked on a bone. "
There was a foreign creature on the maybe-foreign matter, coming towards them as they came towards it.

(This is the horse-legged thing described in the journal found last issue.)
Out they went through vessel tunnels, coming out on top of lungs that they started going down.

Selva's appreciation of the body's flora and fauna was tempered by her past, when she ' didn't really fear death ' like she did now.

Then, fallen trees and the river'd smashed her fellow kayakers.

In the present, the descenders managed to portaledge.

Shouting followed, and then mutual silence.
Selva turned to the wall behind her, ' [felt] the last breaths of the long dead ':

She read the record written on the lung.

The next morning, tempers calm, they continued their descent.

' No. '

Selva landed -

- and caught herself with her axe.

(The panel borders invoke intestines, and she's going deeper.)

(Pagecount's 7 and under 9/10ths of 24 from August 2024's Into The Unbeing: Part One #3.
Writing's Zac Thompson, art's Hayden Sherman, and letters're Jim Campbell.
Part One ended this week with issue #4 - Part Two's coming in January 2025.
Publisher's Dark Horse.)
