I think the full issue is pretty neat, each panel has a story that continues in the same panel of the next page instead of the panel below it and so on through the full book.
The top panels tells the story of Ultimate Reed’s life up to the rocket launch (and reveals the Maker secretly altered his calculations), the second panels tells the story of what happened in the aftermath of the Maker’s interference and how he tortured Ultimate Reed into being Doom, the third panel is Doom looking through the Maker’s file on 616 and then using the Immortus engine to basically rewatch the second panel and the fourth is the present Doom arguing with Tony over what he’s working on.
Remind me, is this Doom a Reed or a Victor? And he's made by the Maker for... reasons? To control his no-heroes world? After Maker set up death of of in-universe FF? I swear, I can handle time travel or multiple universes, but not both.
This Doom is the Reed of Earth-6160, who the Maker abducted and tortured for Reasons (reasons not explicitly specified, but probably including spite, revenge, preventing him becoming a hero, and also fear).
Though the Maker's words as he's doing it raise an interesting possibility (*dons tinfoil hat*) he's not using this Reed as a voodoo doll for anything the other Reeds or Dooms have done, but is using him to vent some issues a bit closer to home.
Indeed. I mean, NUU Roberto's dad is part of his inner circle, so one of the lighter options is Roberto might just be spoiled, lazy or evil. (Though issue 2 had someone who looked an awful lot like 'Berto in a flashback. So there's a ray of hope.)
Kind of figured there was one character Maker absolutely would have murdered up good out of spite, but the covers for upcoming issues suggest otherwise.
Reed did seem to know in the Ultimate Universe one-shot, but the recap page for this issue suggests he doesn't. Given Reed's mental state, his having memory problems wouldn't be surprising.
(Maybe he is aware during his more ludic moments, but then forgets when he isn't?)
