well, she went from Wind Goddess to full punk in the space of an issue. That's always a shock. And it feels like the change came with a bit more attitude.
Guys like Galactus, Eternity, and the Living Tribunal may get the attention, but only a fool underestimates the Comics Code Authority and their ability to reinforce pants and generate convenient steam clouds.
This was also mentioned in STORM #1 (2023). Kitty said Storm was trying to be too many things at once.
Others have said this scene and another confrontation a few issues later are about Ororo being Kitty’s surrogate mother. Which has connotations. Ororo says “I am your teammate and friend but I cannot be your mother.”
"Oh, Stevie, the woman I see as a surrogate mother woman has changed her haircut and taken to wearing leather twenty-four seven, and it fills me with strange, tingly feelings! What should I do?" "*Stevie says nothing, as she prays to whoever's listening that the nearest bar is still open*"
You could try just respecting her choices, ya little jackass. (Shock and surprise when a friend or loved one goes through a dramatic change is one thing, but still going "she's a monster!" for weeks afterward is another.)
If ever there was an argument that Storm and Yukio had a passionate affair, her adoption of the leather/punk persona immediately following their Japanese caper would have sealed that deal.
I'm not saying that every Claremontian female character is blatantly bisexual--that's just an established unwritten fact.
Hey, not every Claremont character. Just almost all of them. Karma's strictly gals only, and even that was technically after his time. In the New Mutant days she didn't show any interest in anyone (on account of her backstory). While Moira's only into men. ... ... huh. Could've sworn there were more examples than that. (Magma, maybe? Can't recall off-hand her having any interest in anything either...)
Magma had unfortunate taste in guys. She willingly dated Empath. But then again, she also spent a lot of time hanging around half-naked women in the jungle during her extremely unfortunate brownface phase... Problem is, she's another who got written out of the New Mutants and very little's been done with her since, constructively.
I'll admit Xuan was pretty much a dating blank slate-- her entire backstory was pretty dark, and once she became responsible for raising her siblings (until they got vanished into the plot hole) she took on the boring team mom vibe until she got vanished into the plot hole as well... (Okay, she vanished early in the NM, returned for a while, then the kids vanished, and then she left to go work for her uncle...)
Rahne is pretty straight on the surface, but she and Dani always had a "connection" and Rahne had a LOT of repression going on. There's definitely an argument to be made there.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.

But I've seen much less gayer ways of coming out.
