The art makes it look like Vance is missing the top of his head. Unfortunate shield-throwing accident?

Ugh, so sad seeing Herb trying to keep up with the times only for this atrocity.

And I like to think these are just the villains who bothered to pick up the phone and answer Otto's call. Talk about a weak end to Valentino's run.

I forget if Otto had any plan bigger than "invade Avengers Mansion and steal their shit" but he really did stack his team with the best and brightest...
Absorbing Man and Titania - okay, good, they've got experience with this sort of thing. Plus, he worked with them during Secret War, he knows how they operate.
Gargantua - strong guy, extremely dumb. Um, easy to manipulate?
Jackhammer - another strong dumb guy, apparently.
Oddball - A criminal juggler. Has been beaten by Hawkeye. Repeatedly.
Powderkeg - a strong explosive guy.
Puff Adder - A second-string Serpent Society member. Also a strong guy.
Shocker - Look, I love him but he's a ten-time loser. But I think he's worked with Otto before?
Yellowjacket - Um, yeah. She's only here because he threatened her. She wants to -join- the Avengers!

Yeah, I know he thinks these goobers are easier to control than his usual cohorts, and he planned for strength and power over versatility and variety because he didn't expect anyone to be home, but oof. Couldn't he have hired an -entire- team of bad guys? Were the rest of the Serpent Society or Death-Throws busy? Did the Wrecking Crew laugh and hang up? This was not Otto's finest plan.

This art was why I never read this, back when, but I had entirely forgotten it was Herb Trimpe, who was usually just boring, not horrible.
