I’m afraid that this is going to be a short one. There’s a lot of Night-Thrasher stuff that I had to cut out. Have some Rage instead.

Thankfully, the following issues have more going on with Vance.

Rage was a good addition to the team. It's not like there were a -ton- of teen/young heroes floating around at the time, so he was a good underused character. (Though angry Black man was still an awful cliche, especially on top of Night Thrasher existing...)

Shame how much Rage got mistreated. The New Warriors had a knack for putting their members through the meat grinder...

At least they didn't give Rage a skateboard.

Yeah, I was never quite comfortable with the notion that Rage looked to be in his 20's, acted like his actual age of 13, and no one in the Avengers noticed the difference, just assuming it was what he was like because, i guess "young angry Black man"

To be fair, the Avengers likely have an odd view of what normal behavior actually is.

They have a demi-god who acts like a Frat boy, a superscientist who wore chain-mail, a socialite Eternal and Vision...'nuff said.

Rage was probably the most normal of the lot.

I agree with you on Rage but I don't think Night Thrasher really counts as an angry black man. While not the friendliest person, he's characterized as having a pretty strong grip on his temper, especially compared to Richard and Namorita.

I dunno. In the early years, Thrash was kind of a loose cannon with some anger issues. I remember Rich having to hold him back a few times. And he kept an Uzi in his backpack!

I don't recall a Uzi but I only started reading the original Bew Warriors a few years ago and haven't completed it.

I'm beginning to wonder if Bagley left the book to ease his workload or Marvel was like "Okay we can't have the guy who's drawing Mary Jane drawing Firestar. We can't. We just can't!"
