What is this dialogue?

"You have been in hiding, OSWALD. But even penguins have to come up for food."

"Have some fresh fish on me, BATMAN. Or more like ON YOU."

Things seem fine on every other page, but that exchange comes across really stilted. No exclamation for the joke? No contractions from Batman?

Also, that gun that Batman picks up is clearly not the weapon the shooter used. Is that a purposeful clue?

Loeb's writing, at least when he's in this mode, just. Does not work without Sale making every single panel feel like a full-page splash. It was one of Sale's biggest selling points as an artist, and I'm puzzled why they didn't find a guy who could at least try to imitate that.

They didn’t want somebody who imitates Sale out of respect to him, each issue has a different artists who he considered inspirations.
