Love how this does " ah, Batman's doing a clever psychological thing unlike his colleagues' slugfesting ", and then that also catastrophically fails.

(Also love how, even though Tom King's written Batman and is writing Wonder Woman, they're still unceremoniously wrecked by Captain Atom. Always good when the writer doesn't play favorites.)

Yeah, but he also had CA tag Flash while Flash was doing his remove the hostages so fast that no one'll notice until after it is done thing.

So he isn't playing favorites now, by having his new plaything casually destroy the entire frigging Jl??

He scripted Captain Atom getting wrecked by his co-creation Gotham Girl back in his Batman run - I don't think he's doing anything other than " existing character wins fight against other existing characters because story ", and that's something literally everybody writing Big Two superhero comics is and has been guilty of.

On that note, is there an explanation given for why Captain Atom is suddenly casually thrashing all the heavyweights in the Justice League? He's certainly no-one to take lightly but most of them should be able to fight him one on one. Is it just Dr.Manhattan-style "realized the full potential of the powers he already has" or does this "divinity" thing he's rambling about refer to some sort of power-up?

I was going to post the same question. I didn’t understand what his powers are here.

It feels like he's gone full Doctor Manhattan.
This also feels like another case where Tom King wants to tell a very specific story using very specific characters and he'll hammer them into those roles no matter what.

I mean, was anyone asking for a story in which Jenny Sparks claws out of her well-earned grave to smoke, snark, and deal with a Captain Atom gone fully around the bend?

At least it seems to be out of continuity, unless CA goes bonkers over in the mainline titles...

Back in the day, and I mean probably the 90's, it was hinted that Captain Atom was a new type of elemental like Swamp Thing, Red Tornado or Naiad (and Firestorm sometimes), and Captain Atom was the elemental for atomic energy (and the word "quantum" was used, so you know it was serious).

So there would really be very few limits to his power levels beyond his own self inflicted ones.

Why would Greek mythology centred Wonder Woman invoke Jove, the Roman analog to Zeus, rather than Zeus himself?

Why bring Jenny "Spirit of the 20th Century" Sparks back, when I assume Jenny "Spirit of the 21st Century" Quantum is around?

9/11 brought Jenny Sparks back. Because Tom King (and, I feel, only Tom King) viewed 9/11 as a sign that the 20th century hadn’t really ended instead of actually marking the end of an era. Which truly only underlines just how arbitrary our concept of time in distinct chunks of multiples of 10 years is

If you hear explain it on Comic Pop returns it makes a lot of sense,

With the Greco-Roman gods, you may as well ask why Hippolyta named her daughter Diana in the first place.

Maybe, since she knows him personally, Diana feels like calling Zeus by one of his nicknames this time. It's her equivalent of saying 'oh my gosh' in place of 'oh my god'.

Green Lantern even gets taken out in the same manner as his colleague did at the hands of Deathstroke back in 'Identity Crisis', the previous holder of the title "most embarrassing showing by the Justice League."
