Maybe it’s because my perception is coloured by everybody else talking about how amazing this teaser is or maybe it’s because I didn’t hate Henry Cavill’s Superman like everybody else here seems to so Superman never really “left” for me, but I think this looks… okay, I guess? It honestly doesn’t look much better than Superman and Lois. Which is probably more a testament to how great that show was than a dig at how this film looks.

I dunno, I want to be hyped and I don’t doubt it’ll be good, but I don’t like the suit and I don’t like how yet another early outing for Superman has to have all these other non-Superman characters thrown in *again*. At least Black Adam happened well into the DCEU and the Justice Society were there to compare and contrast with the titular character, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies made sense to include all those other MCU details because he’s a normal kid growing up in a world where superheroes are a normal thing. Why does a film called Superman also have to have Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl?

I think because, until they establish a suitably well connecting Dick Grayson with years of networking and Titans leadership, if any superhero is going to be in close contact with other heroes, it's going to be Superman.

In fairness, I don't think Henry Cavill is the thing most people
dislike about "Henry Cavill’s Superman". I think he could have been a great Superman under different circumstances.

(Between that and The Witcher, I feel pretty bad for the guy. He keeps signing onto projects that he clearly cares about more than the people managing them)

I loved Henry Cavill's Superman, just not the movies he found himself in. It's not that I didn't like elements of those films, but it felt like Snyder and I didn't view Superman in the same way...or his films stories and direction undercut the interpretation of the character. It mattered to me that this new trailer showed Superman saving someone and looked concerned about it. Snyder's Superman stands in a room where people are being blown up and he looks sad and resigned that he can't do anything and doesn't even try to use his powers to save anyone (but is fast enough to track the flash in real time). Snyder's Superman shows casual disregard for bystanders caught in the crossfire. This trailer shows me a Superman keenly aware of them.

I like several things, here. First, starting the trailer (and possibly the movie, based on Gunn's statements) showing Superman being badly hurt sets the tone that he's not invulnerable, but also that he'll fight until he can't. The economy of it is great. Second, I LOVE that there are other superheroes here and that they are a part of the story. DC starts with Superman and the new DC movie universe does too...so establishing a universe where other heroes are around (some, like Guy Gardner, who almost certainly have different viewpoints on how to handle things) is a great idea. Just like Tom Holland's first movie didn't waste time with his origin, Gunn is wisely side-stepping it here, too. We don't need to live it again (or Martha Wayne's pearls, either).

I didn't hate Snyder's Superman movies, but I was disappointed in them....because to me, with some changes, they would have been truly great. I know some folks really loved them and I'm glad they did. But this take seems much more geared to what I want to see. After the trailer, my wife is now interested in this movie, when before I can guarantee you she very much was NOT. I'm eager to see how this plays out.

First time I am actually optimistic about a Superman movie! Some scenes look kinda cheap, but the cinematography in others is properly dramatic, so I wonder how the final product will feel. And it premieres on my birthday!

Didn’t even realize that was Gardner. Sinestro Gardner is a bold
choice.
