Is there some reason I'm not getting that dangerous supernatural creatures couldn't get themselves out of barrels eventually? (I can see how floating in an ocean of running water might hamper Fenny there at the end if that particular vampiric limitation applies, but presumably he didn't release them while the barrels were bobbing around out at sea.)

Depending on the lore, vampires can occasionally be known for *not* having superhuman strength (i.e. they are frail and weak creatures whose strength - supernatural or otherwise - becomes more depleted the longer they are deprived of fresh blood).
