I don't know that Loki gained anything from yelling " Wait! You left your money! ", so I'm going to assume he was sincere in that.

I think it was just for his own amusement. A bit of innocent fun. Hydro-Man not only didn't get to keep his knowledge, he was literally poorer for it.
