Hawkeye is in town and he isn’t happy that Black Widow has a new man.
Consent is for other heroes, apparently.
He canna see, man! He canna see! (Let’s see how many people understood that reference!)
Daredevil finds Hawkeye having just beaten up some bikers. Hawkeye being Hawkeye assumes he is there to continue the fight.
Now, kiss.
Work it, Matthew!

Nat, the issue after that: "Nah, changed my mind."
Make up your damn mind, Natasha.
(Although, to be fair, the issue she left was the same issue that brought us the ever-fragrant Mantis. So good on Nat's instincts.)

I really like Sam Kweskin's art on this issue. A cursory web search shows that he did a number of stories for Marvel in the 1950s, but only a handful of issues in the superhero era.

Daredevil: Once I had to pretend Hawkeye blinded me just to maintain my secret identity.

Date: 2025-02-06 01:50 pm (UTC)It wasn't that long in the past from this issue that Hawkeye had gone to rescue Black Widow from her ex-husband, the Red Guardian, who had come to retrieve her. Hawkeye would remain like this for years more, though less angry, until he got his own mini-series in 1983 (which is where he met and teamed-up with Mockingbird, soon to be his wife).
Over the years he's changed, mellowed and of course. And the landmark Fraction and Aja 'Hawkguy' run of comics redefined him from the more modern takes.
