" magic such as this " is a fun way for a character like Loki to talk about more " scientifically " technological methods.

(Compare with the recent bit in Immortal Thor where the Enchantress mocks the Grey Gargoyle's petrifying touch as " quite a primitive [transmutation spell] ".)
