Issue #17 of the Skybound/Image run of Transformers. Let's face it, we all knew this moment was coming...









Plenty of writers have created new characters of their own in the past, but normally they just slot in as background characters, or as cannon-fodder to be gunned down. I know we've only got one page to go by right now, but I'm already getting pretty strong Drift vibes off of this Shredhead, not helped by the tone of the letters page commentary. I look forward to being proven wrong.

I'd also complain about how this machine can translate an alt-mode for a new 'bot from the smashed remains of a vehicle, but if I started on that rabbit hole I'd also have to wonder how Thrust already has an Earth alt-mode in this issue and so on...

How many has Cliffjumper actually been killed? The only instances that come to mind for me are Transformers Prime and the Bumblee movie.

Yeah, Shredhead (down to the sword and X-TREME name) feels a bit more heavily shilled like Drift originally was before Roberts got his hands on him, than say, Rung or Nautica.

...I'd still take a toy of him.

Roberts is a metalhead whose first big comic was Murder Falcon.

I feel like Shredhead is perfectly in line.

When I saw the name, I thought this was a reference to Ninja Turtles' Shredder.

My guess for the alt-mode would be one of those kludged together wasteland style roadsters.

Or worst case scenario: The Homer.

I'm just glad I'm not supposed to recognize Shredhead from anything in particular. I don't know every obscure Transformer ever, after all. :)

You're far from alone - 90% of the time, when the author is asked when a certain character or other will appear in the letters page, he replies with "I don't know who that is," so I think a basic understanding of the characters from the 80s cartoon is all that's required.

(Maybe it's because of the 'shred' in their name? Word association with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?)

Hmm, searching the internets, there WAS an episode of the eighties TMNT series with 'Shredhead' in the title...
